Planner; Multimodal Transportation Planning

About the Position

Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG) is seeking a Planner to support regional transportation planning initiatives, including the development of the Regional Transportation Plan. The Planner will work on transit, freight, Vision Zero, Complete Streets, and other multimodal transportation projects, and will also manage the region’s federal performance management program.

• Researches and analyzes data for transportation planning; collaborates with regional partners and maintains relationships.
• Provides professional-level planning services for internal and external projects; represents DRCOG on committees and advisory groups.
• Leads and facilitates meetings with partners, prepares meeting materials, and develops recommendations and reports.
• Assists in preparing transportation plans, leads functional plan development, prepares maps, charts, and data visualizations, and presents findings.
• Provides technical assistance to local governments and other stakeholders; works with communities to advance local and regional goals.
• Researches best practices and emerging trends, identifies funding opportunities, and makes implementation recommendations.
• Supports performance-based planning, Complete Streets planning, and the maintenance of DRCOG’s Regional Transportation Plan.
• Participates in meetings and reviews plan materials for projects, corridors, communities, and multimodal studies initiated by local governments and other agencies.
• Performs additional duties related to transportation planning as assigned, including research, field surveys, and data analysis.
• Demonstrates commitment to diversity and inclusivity through internal and external participation.

• Bachelor’s degree in urban and regional planning, geography, public administration, engineering, or a directly related field.
• Two to four years of related professional planning experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential duties.
• Strong analytical, technical, and research skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Cloud, and GIS.
• Experience with digital accessibility and creating accessible content.
• Excellent communication skills—including writing, public speaking, and facilitating meetings.
• Project management skills to support multiple projects simultaneously.
• Knowledge of federal metropolitan planning requirements for Metropolitan Planning Organizations.
• Ability to collaborate professionally with a wide variety of stakeholders, including member governments, community organizations, and consulting firms.
• Creative problem‑solving skills for addressing vaguely defined practical problems.
