Senior Mechanical Engineer

Pay Range: Base only, no commissions or bonuses.
Salary: $125,000 - $140,000 USD Annually

Design new products and enhance or improve current products. Work directly with mechanical and electrical engineers, technicians, manufacturing, and quality functions.

• Apply mechanical engineering skills to design, develop, analyze, and test all mechanical aspects of portable electronics equipment.
• Generate 3D CAD designs and 2D drawings utilizing Solidworks.
• Meet project objectives with innovation, creativity, and good engineering practice; design new, innovative products and drive enhancements to current products.
• Create and maintain detailed drawings of designs and assemblies per document control standards.
• Effectively use AMS’s Product Development Process and industry standard product development methodologies and design tools, producing tolerance analysis, design analysis, Product Requirements Documents, product architectures, high‑level design strategies, detailed designs, design revision control, and product verification testing.
• Generate technical documentation in support of Product Development Process deliverables such as protocols, reports, and Change Control documentation.
• Conduct design reviews throughout the product development process and participate in continuous improvement of engineering practices and procedures.
• Specify and perform design validation testing.
• Act as a key player in bringing design concepts from concept through prototyping, testing, and implementation.
• Utilize rapid prototyping techniques to create mock‑ups of products for marketing and sales to validate market requirements.
• Provide marketing support, including technical evaluations and determining project development and product cost estimates for new product ideas.
• Support production by making design changes to improve manufacturability, reduce product build costs and component costs, and support vendor/supplier qualification.
• Participate in failure analysis and investigations to find the root‑cause of production and field failures and, if appropriate, make design changes.
• Be familiar with domestic and international regulatory standards (UL, CE, ISO, IPC, ANSI Y14.5M, etc.), support testing to these standards, and obtain certifications as appropriate.
• Continuously improve required skills by seeking training through seminars, literature, industry shows/workshops, and relevant coursework.
• Perform other duties as required.

• Current user of Solidworks CAD software; familiarity with PDM CAD data management is a plus.
• Direct experience with injection‑molded plastic part design; GD&T is a plus.
• Direct experience with complex assembly design and electrical component integration.
• Strong experience with tolerance analysis of complex assemblies.
• Ability to complete entire projects with minimal supervision and to learn new principles, ideas, and concepts.
• Hands‑on failure analysis and process troubleshooting; ability to determine root‑cause failure modes and distinguish between process and design issues.
• Self‑starter with the ability to work on multiple projects.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills at all organizational levels.
• Demonstrated interest in continuing education in relevant technology areas.
