Position: Geotechnical Engineer 2

Job Description

CDM Smith is seeking a junior Geotechnical Engineer to join our Infrastructure Services Team in Denver, CO. Candidates in this role can expect to:

  • Under general supervision, create excavation, dewatering, shallow/deep foundations, dams/reservoirs/levees, geo-environmental projects, etc.
  • Support engineering designs of basic to moderate complexity to meet client project requirements.
  • Review draft designs for compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Ensure that firm policies and practices are followed on all designs.
  • Perform site reviews and studies, as needed, to ensure designs are aligned with location specifications.
  • Update design requirements as necessary.
  • Perform soil sampling analyses and modeling.
  • Contribute to the firm’s Knowledge Material by developing white papers and technical design documentation of new or special case designs, studies, etc.
  • Submit technical papers and designs for publication to technical journals.
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • May create or work with a team to create a poster or other presentation material for a conference.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical, Civil, Mining or Geologic Engineering or related discipline.
  • 1 year of related experience.
  • Domestic and/or international travel may be required; travel frequency is contingent on specific duties and project demands.
  • Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering – highly preferred.
Skills & Abilities
  • Intermediate knowledge of computer-assisted design and drafting (CADD) 3D and 4D software and practices.
  • Knowledge of engineering principles of design.
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft business software (Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Amount of Travel Required

20% – 40%
