Job Details and Requirements Section

Explain what the scope of the work/project is? Project Overview, deliverables (what this person is responsible for). Plant Fleet based engineering role to support Xcel's energy supply projects group to help manage capital projects at the power plants across the region. This resource would be responsible for managing all emergent capital projects at the plant as well as supporting larger base and major capital projects.

This resource would support reliability engineering in helping develop scopes and justifications for projects and putting those through Xcel's emergent capital request system/process and would be responsible for managing all the projects. This resource could be responsible for upwards of 20 small projects going on at one time in addition to supporting some of the larger base capital projects. True title is E&C Engineer;

however, title is a bit misleading. Really looking for someone with an engineering degree/background, however, will mostly be a project manager.

  • what does a typical day look like? This person will be expected to be onsite 3 days per week or 5 days a week during project execution phase. Working with operations and reliability engineering to learn about plant systems, how they operate. In addition to planning out future work to keep the plants reliable. Attending morning
    * POD meetings, collaborating with operations and reliability personnel throughout the day, overseeing contractors performing/executing on the projects in the field and would be responsible for all the administrative project paperwork, such as developing scopes of work, technical specifications, helping get quotes for equipment, bidding out if necessary and coordinating material deliveries and installation with the plant as well. POD meetings are the groups internal morning meetings to plan out critical items that need to be done that day.
  • What is the size of the group this position will be supporting? Who are some of the key players this person will be working with? There are approximately 20 engineers within the group that this resource can rely on for support and mentoring.
  • Will this resource support internal (business), or external customers? Mainly internal business customers, however, will interface with external customers and vendors as needed. Sometimes the plant maintenance personnel cannot perform some of the larger scope projects or don't have the resources to support all/multiple projects that are going on at the same time, that said, sometimes this team will have to outsource some of that work to external contractors and of course, material vendors, so of course this resource would also be interfacing with those vendors pretty frequently.

    In addition, this resource would interface with external consulting engineers as necessary because the internal engineering group does not do a lot of engineering internally; they do more of the project management and, if engineering services are needed, they usually farm those out to external engineering firms.
  • What are the main technology application/software skills/experience this resource will be required to possess? Proficient with Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Teams, SharePoint). No CAD experience is needed as the team has a design group that focuses on the drawing portion. The team does use a Project Wise drawing system to find existing drawings and documentation for the projects and the equipment that they will be working on.

    Team also uses Excel spreadsheets pretty frequently as well. Experience in SAP preferred.
  • Describe work environment / team culture (supportive/collaborative, teamwork, or individual contributor)? Formal title for this role would be an individual contributor because this role doesn't technically have direct reports, however, in a way it is very collaborative, and leadership focused as this role will lead teams of other engineers, contractors, and vendors as well as working alongside plant operations and reliability so this resource must really have a strong ability to collaborate.

    Strong teamwork/interpersonal skills are required to be able to be successful in this role and build relationships.
  • What is the ramp up time/process for this role? Aside from having the required skill set, approximately how long will it take to train on Xcel's process, procedures/policy? To start contributing, this resource can start contributing right away but to be confident in basic tasks, this resource might need 3 + months.
  • What are the work hours/shift (standard, evening, full time/part time, OT required, on-call for 24/7 operation)? Very flexible Monday-Friday/40 hours Standard/core business hours. This is a 24/7 operation, however, there may be times where it is required to be on-site for longer OT hours depending on critical nature of the project.
  • Is this new headcount or a backfill? Backfill.
