Required SkillsThe engineer will be responsible for monitoring and troubleshooting WiFi performance across ~20M access points, investigating complex production issues, analyzing large datasets to identify root causes, and supporting executive-level customer escalations. Success in this role requires a rare combination of advanced WiFi expertise, strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills, production operations experience, and the ability to independently leverage data to drive problems through resolution.
Job DescriptionResponsible for providing wireless technology leadership for the development of wireless technologies including WiFi and mobile, engineering design, and deployment support.
Requires hands‑on experience with a broad range of wireless technologies including WiFi5, WiFi6 and WiFi7, 4G‑LTE and IoT as well as competency with key networking elements such as routing, switching, and security.
Major Duties and Responsibilities- Provides technology leadership and leads the development of complex end‑to‑end technology solutions involving devices/CPEs, access, transport, core and backend systems.
- Assesses new product requirements and develops technology solutions and architecture designs to support them.
- Tests and certifies new Small Cells, Home/SMB Routers, Wireless APs, Wireless Access Gateways (WAGs) and Controllers for field deployment.
- Works with Operations to resolve WiFi and mobile access network issues that could impact the business and/or customers.
- Provides guidelines and technical leadership for developing tools and processes to support new product and technology solution development, testing and validation.
- Validates the capabilities of technologies through lab evaluation and possibly field trials.
- Drives new innovative technologies and approaches (802.11ad/ay, UWB, BNC, Mesh Network, and others) to increase performance, reliability, and QoE for customers.
- Supports new wireless technologies and initiatives that may include improving network security, virus detection, virtualisation of network functions, and new applications and services.
- Supports efforts to maximize the performance of Spectrum WiFi (public WiFi infrastructure).
- Develops tools and processes for engineering design, testing and certification of new technology solutions and products.
- Reviews all designs, code and unit test plans where applicable.
- Participates in and contributes to RFPs/RFIs, hardware and software evaluations and vendor contract negotiations.
- Must have deep knowledge in wireless access technologies including WiFi5, WiFi6, WiFi7, 4G‑LTE, and familiarity with 5G, with a clear track record of excellence managing wireless access engineering systems within a well‑known media brand.
- Must be proficient with network diagnostics, troubleshooting and inventory tools, including SQL databases, Splunk, Plume, Scope.
- Familiarity with CPE Wireless Gateway and Router designs and roadmap plans for all major U.S. Operators, operational experience with WiFi and 4G‑LTE, and ability to manage and deliver against multiple initiatives simultaneously.
- Work experience:
7+ years in Wireless Technology Development & Management with top MSOs, Telco, satellite operators or major wireless vendors in the U.S. - Education:
BSEE in Electrical/Computer Engineering or equivalent; MBA preferred.
