SDS​/SBS CAD Designer Lead

Overview

ANS is a multidisciplinary engineering firm focused on innovation and collaboration. We are transitioning our HV engineering group to SBS Substation Design Suite (SDS) as our primary production platform. The role sits at the intersection of substation engineering, design standards, and production automation, and requires deep SDS/AutoCAD experience to build a scalable design production system.

• SDS Program Ownership: Own the SDS/SBS AutoCAD rollout roadmap, content backlog, and release cadence. Manage the transition from standard AutoCAD to SDS as the default workflow for standard substation projects.
• Content Governance: Coordinate with engineering leads to maintain block libraries, naming conventions, attribute rules, sheet setup standards, and template release controls. Ensure every block, symbol, and template has an owner, revision date, approval status, and intended project type.
• Training and Adoption: Develop and manage a role-based training program for new users, checkers, project engineers, content owners, and production contributors. Track adoption metrics and report on rollout milestones.
• Technology and AI Integration: Coordinate with the technology team on AutoCAD LISP routines, automation scripts, and AI integrations. Ensure SDS outputs support automated checking workflows.

• Hands-on Substation
  
  Experience:
  
  Demonstrate hands-on experience with SDS or AutoCAD in a substation design production environment. Deep AutoCAD substation experience with the ability to learn SDS is preferred.
• Design Standards: Strong understanding of substation design P&C, physical, or both. Communicate credibly with engineers and reviewers on content standards and design intent.
• Content Governance Programs: Experience managing AutoCAD block libraries, template standards, naming conventions, or similar governance programs.
• Training Delivery: Develop and deliver training content to engineers, designers, and checkers with varying SDS experience, including remote teams.
• Tooling familiarity: Familiarity with AutoCAD LISP, scripting, or automation tooling is a plus. Experience working with a technology or software development team is valued.
• Program Management: Strong organizational and program management skills, backlog management, release cadence, and communicating progress to multiple stakeholders.
• Collaboration: Ability to work across disciplines with strong cross-functional communication and the ability to build trust with engineering and technology teams.
• Self-starter: Proactive, with integrity, and comfortable in a growing organization where processes are evolving and ownership requires initiative.

• Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, engineering technology, drafting, or a related field preferred. Equivalent professional substation design experience with strong SDS/AutoCAD depth will be considered.
• Experience: 5+ years in substation design or a closely related field, with demonstrated ownership of production tools, templates, or standards.
• Bonus: Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
