HDR is hiring a Water Engineering professional to join the Denver, CO office. The role focuses on designing municipal pumping stations and pipelines, providing technical expertise across the full lifecycle of infrastructure projects.
Primary Responsibilities- Collaborate with design teams to integrate components into larger projects; attend office meetings at least four days a week.
- Perform hydraulic calculations for pump selection and pipeline sizing.
- Conduct alternatives analysis for pipeline routes and pumping station sites.
- Prepare design reports, technical memoranda, specifications, drawings, and supporting calculations for agency approvals.
- Develop plan and profile drawings for water transmission/distribution and sewer interceptor pipelines.
- Design equipment layout and site plans for pumping stations.
- Coordinate with CAD and Civil 3D technicians during drawing development.
- Draft technical specifications based on HDR master specs and client requirements.
- Handle construction‑phase engineering tasks, including RFIs, submittal review, construction observation, and related support.
- Solid foundation in civil and mechanical engineering related to water, construction drawings, and strong technical writing.
- Minimum of 4 years experience preparing construction drawings and specifications for water/wastewater pipelines or pumping stations.
- Proficiency developing design components with project teams and collaborating directly with clients.
- Experience in hydraulic calculations for pressure and gravity flow systems, including pipeline sizing, wall thickness, and head curves.
- Evaluation of pump types and sizes for lift and pumping stations; preliminary equipment layouts.
- Construction office experience, including submittal and shop drawing review, RFIs, and work‑change directives.
- Proficiency with ArcGIS and Google Earth.
- Proficient in AutoCAD for design investigations.
- Technical writing mastery.
- Experience mentoring entry‑level engineers.
- Active participation in professional societies (e.g., AWWA, WEA, ASCE) and attendance at relevant conferences.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent field.
- Previous experience designing and creating plans and specifications for water and wastewater projects.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Self‑motivated, able to work independently and with project teams to complete tasks.
