VCA Green is looking for an Energy Engineer to join our sustainability consulting team. In this role, you'll develop whole-building energy models for commercial, multifamily, institutional, and mixed-use projects while supporting LEED certification, ASHRAE 90.1 compliance, and high-performance building design. We're looking for someone who enjoys solving technical challenges, understands building systems, and wants to help clients improve building performance through energy analysis and modeling.
Responsibilities- Develop whole-building energy models for new construction, renovations, and existing buildings.
- Produce ASHRAE 90.1 Appendix G performance models for LEED certification and code compliance.
- Create baseline and proposed energy models using IES-VE, Energy Plus/Open Studio, eQUEST, Trane TRACE 3D Plus, or similar software.
- Support LEED, IECC, and other energy code compliance documentation.
- Analyze building plans, utility data, and building systems to identify energy-saving opportunities.
- Perform ASHRAE Level I, II, and III energy audits and site assessments as needed.
- Evaluate HVAC systems, building envelope, lighting, controls, domestic hot water, and renewable energy systems.
- Prepare technical reports, engineering calculations, and client recommendations.
- Support retro-commissioning, measurement & verification (M&V), and building decarbonization initiatives.
- Work closely with clients and project teams throughout all phases of a project.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Building Science, or a related field.
- 1-3 years of professional energy modeling experience.
- Experience with one or more of the following: IES-VE, Energy Plus/Open Studio, eQUEST, Trane TRACE 3D Plus.
- Working knowledge of ASHRAE 90.1 (especially Appendix G), LEED, and IECC.
- Understanding of HVAC systems, building envelope, lighting, controls, and energy-efficient building design.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to travel occasionally for project site visits.
- Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Certified Energy Auditor (CEA), or Building Energy Modeling Professional (BEMP).
- Experience with Title 24 energy modeling.
- EIT certification is a plus.
