Job Description & How to Apply Below

Engineer - Test IV (Senior)

At Blue Origin, the Motion Control Business Unit (MCBU) at Honeybee Robotics designs, manufactures, and tests the high-performance, reliable motion control components and integrated solutions that power the most demanding aerospace missions. Our product portfolio—including actuators, motors, gearboxes, Solar Array Drive Assemblies (SADAs), Reaction Wheel Assemblies (RWAs), gimbals, and Thrust Vector Control (TVC) systems—operates in the harshest environments, enabling critical missions from Earth orbit to deep space.

Our Test Department is essential in ensuring every component meets the rigorous standards required for mission success.

As a Senior Test Engineer, you will serve as a senior technical authority within the MCBU Test Department, leading complex test campaigns from planning through execution and closeout across Engineering Development, Qualification, and Flight hardware. With an electrical engineering background, you will design, develop, and maintain Electrical/Electronic Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) that stimulates, simulates, and monitors motion control hardware under test — enabling safe, repeatable verification of flight and qualification units.

You will operate with a high degree of autonomy, mentor junior test engineers and technicians, and represent the Test Department in cross-functional design and program reviews. Your work will directly impact the reliability and performance of motion control solutions used in critical space exploration and aerospace missions.

Special Mentions

  • Relocation provided
  • Travel expected up to 10% of the time

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Test Program Leadership
  • Author, review, and approve test plans, procedures, and reports in compliance with applicable standards and program requirements.
  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for test activities on assigned programs, coordinating across engineering, program management, quality, and customer stakeholders.
  • Present test campaign plans, schedules, results, and technical findings at internal reviews, Test Readiness Reviews (TRRs), and customer milestones.
EGSE Development
  • Design, develop, and maintain Electrical/Electronic Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) — including power supplies/simulators, battery and load simulators, breakout boxes (BOBs), and signal interface racks — to stimulate and monitor unit-under-test (UUT) hardware during functional, performance, and environmental testing.
  • Define EGSE architecture and interface requirements against flight electrical interface control documents (ICDs); perform safe-to-mate verification prior to UUT integration.
  • Develop and maintain EGSE schematics, wiring diagrams, and documentation to support configuration control and reuse across programs.
  • Troubleshoot and repair EGSE hardware/firmware issues to minimize test campaign downtime; drive continuous improvement of EGSE reliability, modularity, and reusability across product lines.
  • Collaborate with electrical design engineers on EGSE-to-flight-hardware interface compatibility, grounding/bonding, and EMI/EMC considerations.
Test Development & Execution
  • Design, set up, and operate test fixtures, ground support equipment (GSE), and data acquisition systems to support functional, performance, life, and environmental testing (vibration, thermal vacuum, shock, EMI/EMC) of motion control hardware.
  • Lead troubleshooting and anomaly investigations, driving root cause analysis and corrective action through to closure; support Failure Review Boards (FRBs) as technical lead or subject matter expert.
  • Collect, reduce, and analyze test data; identify trends and risks, and communicate findings clearly to engineering and project teams.
Mentor and Collaborate
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior test engineers and test technicians on EGSE development, electrical test methods, instrumentation, troubleshooting, and documentation practices.
  • Collaborate closely with design, systems, and quality engineers to ensure test and EGSE requirements are properly derived, allocated, and verified; provide Design-for-Test (DFT) feedback on new product designs.
  • Identify and drive opportunities to…
