Geotechnical Engineer
AECOM is seeking a highly motivated staff geotechnical or geologic engineer to support rock mechanics and heavy civil infrastructure design and analysis as part of the Mining group in Denver Colorado. You'll work on a variety of projects and develop your technical skills with guidance from senior geotechnical engineers.
Job Summary/Responsibilities:
- Plan and implement geotechnical investigations for mining and infrastructure projects, including oversight of field investigations, site inspections and preparation of investigation deliverables (20-30% travel expected).
- Plans, directs and performs specific and/or moderate portions of mid-sized to large projects under supervision of a senior engineer by coordination of multidisciplinary design inputs, including tunnelling, geotechnical, hydrogeological, structural, civil
- Plans, oversees and performs geotechnical evaluations of supporting rock mass classification, rock mass characterization, foundation design, slope stability, and settlement analyses.
- Proficiency in analytical and numerical methods for underground works, slope stability analysis, and settlement analysis.
- Provide technical input and project management support for ongoing projects.
- Prepares technical calculation packages, proposals & reports. Preparing and presenting technical presentations of evaluation results to internal and client teams.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across US and Canada.
- Maintain strong relationships with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Must effectively manage time and project requirements in a flexible work schedule. Travel occasionally for field work (e.g., drilling, site assessments).
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical, Geological, Civil Engineering or closely related field and 4+ years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency or experience and/or education.
- EIT Certification.
- Valid U.S. Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Geotechnical or related engineering discipline.
- PE designation (or eligibility for registration within 6 months).
- Experience in soil logging, rock core logging and geological mapping.
- 6+ years of consulting or geotechnical design experience related to mining or tunnelling.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Experience managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines.
- Knowledge of soil and rock mechanics, QA/QC, and construction oversight.
- Proficiency in geotechnical software (e.g., Slide2/3, RS2/3, PLAXIS 2D/3D, FLAC Geo Studio, Settle3, gINT, AutoCAD).
- Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word).
