As a Composite Strength Analyst at ULA Job responsibilities include the following:
- Performing analysis of composite material structures, as well as metallic elements, to support recurring operations, nonconformance resolution, and development programs.
- Creating finite element analysis models (FEMs), performing hand calculations and having an understanding of analysis best practices to provide strength inputs and recommendations for new designs, design modifications, and installations.
- Running and modifying existing FEMs to support updated inputs, design changes, or nonconformance resolution.
- Reviewing and approving 3-D engineering layouts, 3-D models, designs / drawings and 2-D drawing changes.
- Making engineering design recommendations with consideration of thermal, mechanical and pressure loading using appropriate material properties, configurations, safety factors, etc.
- Documenting analysis results in strength reports.
- Supporting internal peer reviews, table top reviews and formal design reviews as needed.
- Evaluating hardware non-conformances to support production activities.
- Working independently and coordinating efforts across functional and product teams.
- Assisting in training junior engineers in basic principles / fundamentals.
The engineer must be able to work with lead engineers to plan and prioritize individual work.
Required EducationBachelors degree in engineering or related technical field from an accredited college or university.
Basic QualificationsAbility to make design recommendations based on analysis results/experience Proficiency with MS Office tools Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment are essential General understanding of materials and material properties Experience with Structural Analysis Experience analyzing composite structures with FEA and hand calcs General knowledge of fabrication and repair methods for composite hardware Experience working with cross-functional teams Experience working with component suppliers and development of spec requirements Understanding of bolted joint modeling and analysis Understanding of GD&T standards and principles Understanding of analysis best practices and underlying assumptions Understanding of basic hand calculations Strong communication skills
Preferred QualificationsExperience running/creating analysis automation and pre/post processing scripts using the following tools Unix, Matlab, Python, Excel Experience with materials testing associated with composites Experience with static/dynamic testing and model correlation Experience helping train junior engineers in basic analysis principles Experience helping lead engineers plan work scope ABAQUS static and dynamic analysis
Salary Range (for ULA - Denver only): $99,604.00 - $
