Manufacturing Automation Engineer
Echo Star is reimagining the future of connectivity. Our business reach spans satellite television service, live-streaming and on-demand programming, smart home installation services, mobile plans and products. Today, our brands include Boost Mobile, DISH TV, Gen Mobile, Hughes and Sling TV.
Manufacturing TeamsOur Manufacturing teams are the gatekeepers who ensure our groundbreaking products meet the standards of innovation and performance we pride ourselves on. From the engineers who design large-scale production systems and cutting-edge quality assurance tools to the hands-on associates who manage our massive inventory flow, they make up a diverse group of behind-the-scenes team members dedicated to the success of our organization.
Job Duties and ResponsibilitiesDesigning and scaling industrial automation systems requires continuous optimization to eliminate production bottlenecks, reduce equipment downtime, and lower manufacturing costs. Modern automated environments depend on complex integrations of PLC/HMI/SCADA controls, 3D CAD modeling, and advanced robotics across diverse business lines. This role solves critical manufacturing inefficiencies, establishes standardized operational procedures, and drives end-to-end deployment of semi- and fully-automated equipment to maximize throughput and product quality.
What Success Looks Like (Objectives):
- Design, validate, and optimize manual and automated manufacturing processes to improve cycle times, product quality, and throughput while minimizing downtime
- Implement PLC, HMI, and SCADA control systems along with sensors, instrumentation, and advanced robotics to automate workflows across key business lines
- Create detailed 3D CAD designs, control panel layouts, test fixtures, and electrical schematics for automated equipment
- Develop standardized process documentation, including SOEs and SOPs, and collaborate with maintenance technicians to establish planned maintenance procedures
- Leverage AI tools and predictive analytics to optimize equipment diagnostic workflows, streamline CAD design iterations, and improve automated process reliability
- Lead intermediate-to-complex engineering projects from concept through deployment while ensuring compliance with technical and safety standards
Core Skills and Competencies (What you'll bring):
- Critical experience managing industrial automation projects, controls engineering initiatives, and process optimization programs
- Advanced proficiency in 3D CAD software such as AutoCAD and SOLIDWORKS to design control systems and test fixtures
- Deep understanding of PLC, HMI, SCADA systems, industrial networks, sensors, motor controls, and continuous improvement methodologies like Lean Manufacturing
- Strong skills in technical writing, cross-functional team collaboration, mentoring junior engineering staff, and problem solving under minimal direction
- Practical AI Application skills to enhance data analysis, reporting, predictive maintenance modeling, and control sequence optimization
Minimum Requirements:
- Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Systems, or Manufacturing Engineering
- Minimum Experience: 3-5 years of experience in industrial automation, controls engineering, or automated manufacturing environments
- Required Technical Skills: Must have at least 3 years of experience with:
- PLC, HMI, and SCADA control systems, sensors, instrumentation, and robotics
- 3D CAD software such as AutoCAD or SOLIDWORKS for controls, fixtures, and schematic designs
- Standard process documentation development (SOEs/SOPs) and Lean Manufacturing continuous improvement techniques
Physical Demands:
- Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, and work directly alongside manufacturing equipment for long periods
- Ability to lift up to 45 lbs and perform hands-on work with tools, control cabinets, and machinery
- Specific vision abilities required to inspect intricate components, interpret technical drawings, and perform detailed wiring or mechanical adjustments
Work Environment:
- Split between an office setting and a dynamic manufacturing environment with moving mechanical equipment, automated systems, and moderate noise levels
- May require working in non-temperature-controlled areas within plant environments
