Project Focus: Midstream & Downstream

Position Overview

Enscicon is partnering with an established engineering and construction organization to identify an Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineer to support a growing portfolio of oil & gas projects.

This position will focus primarily on midstream and downstream facilities, providing instrumentation and controls engineering support throughout various stages of project development and execution. The ideal candidate will have approximately 3–10 years of I&C engineering experience and a strong understanding of instrumentation, control systems, and industrial facility design. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer looking to take on increasing technical responsibility while working alongside experienced engineering and project teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and support instrumentation and controls engineering designs for midstream and downstream oil & gas facilities.
  • Prepare and review instrumentation specifications, datasheets, calculations, and technical documentation.
  • Develop and review instrument indexes, I/O lists, control narratives, cause & effect diagrams, and loop diagrams.
  • Specify instrumentation including pressure, temperature, flow, level, and analytical measurement devices.
  • Support the development and review of P&IDs from an instrumentation and controls perspective.
  • Assist with the specification and application of PLC, DCS, SCADA, and other industrial control systems.
  • Develop or review control system architecture and instrumentation installation details.
  • Coordinate with electrical, mechanical, piping, process, and other engineering disciplines throughout project execution.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide technical input related to instrumentation, controls, and automation.
  • Support equipment and instrumentation procurement by preparing technical specifications, reviewing vendor documentation, and assisting with technical bid evaluations.
  • Provide engineering support during construction, commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting activities as needed.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable client standards, industry codes, and project requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with project managers, engineers, designers, vendors, and client representatives.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Approximately 3+ years of instrumentation and controls engineering experience.
  • Experience supporting oil & gas, refining, petrochemical, pipeline, terminal, natural gas, or similar industrial projects.
  • Working knowledge of instrumentation selection, specification, and application.
  • Familiarity with PLC, DCS, and/or SCADA systems.
  • Ability to read, develop, and review P&IDs and other engineering drawings.
  • Understanding of industrial control philosophies and process instrumentation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary engineering environment.
Preferred Experience
  • Previous experience with midstream and/or downstream oil & gas projects.
  • Experience working for an engineering consulting, EPC, or industrial engineering organization.
  • Familiarity with applicable ISA, API, NFPA, NEC, and related industry standards.
  • Experience supporting projects from early design through construction and commissioning.
  • EIT certification or Professional Engineer (PE) licensure is a plus but not required.
About the Opportunity

This position offers the opportunity to work on technically challenging energy and industrial projects while joining a collaborative engineering team with exposure to multiple phases of project execution. The successful candidate will have the ability to expand their technical capabilities, work directly with experienced engineers and project leaders, and take on increasing responsibility as they progress in their career.
