Job Purpose
The House Manager is responsible for ensuring front of house operations are running smoothly for their assigned theatre within the Bonfils Theatre Complex, Garner Galleria Theatre, or Randy Weeks Conservatory Theatre. The House Manager provides exceptional customer service to patrons, provides night-of-show training, assignments, and coaching to volunteer ushers, and ensures that the theatre, lobby and auxiliary locations are safe, clean and in working condition.
The House Manager collaborates with the Patron Experience Manager on Duty and the Stage Manager to facilitate opening the house, starting the show, intermission, and end of show and prepares report notes to document timing, attendance, and other show details. The House Manager may occasionally support as additional staff on accessible performance dates. This position is part-time and hourly; available hours are based on the DCPA performance schedule and fluctuate throughout the year.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides exceptional customer service.
- Supports patrons with accessibility requirements, including solving seating concerns in coordination with Box Office.
- Responsible for their assigned theatre, which includes assigning ushers to positions within the theatre, providing theatre-specific orientation and coaching, meeting with stage management, coordinating house opening, show start, intermission, and show end.
- Ensures the theatre, lobby and auxiliary locations are kept clean and in working conditions.
- Works with Patron Experience Manager on Duty regarding any patron, noise or temperature issues during the performance.
- Respond effectively during an emergency, following the Crisis Communications plan and directions from Patron Experience Manager on Duty, Security and on-site fire detail or first response personnel.
- Communicates night-of-show house report notes via a standard form.
- Assists with administrative and operational duties or special projects of the Patron Experience department as needed.
- Serve as Accessible Liaison or other support when required.
Experience
- Previous experience working in a cultural facility with culturally diverse personnel and patrons is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to handle a fast-paced environment calmly and efficiently.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, problem-solve, and communicate successfully in high-pressure situations.
- Ability to be punctual, reliable.
- Discretion and diplomacy required.
- Adherence to compliance and security and safety procedures.
- Work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to oversee up to 20 volunteers during a single shift.
