The Controller is responsible for overseeing all accounting, financial reporting, and internal control functions of the firm. This role ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial information while supporting strategic decision-making in a fast-paced consulting and investment advisory environment. The Controller will manage day-to-day accounting operations, lead financial close and reporting processes, and collaborate closely with firm leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes
- Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with GAAP
- Ensure timely and accurate internal and external financial reporting
- Maintain general ledger integrity and accounting policies
- Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cash management
- Oversee revenue recognition for consulting and advisory engagements
- Monitor expense controls and firm profitability by client, practice area, or fund
- Supervise and develop accounting staff or external service providers
- Lead annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes
- Analyze variances between actuals and budget/forecast
- Provide financial insights to support firm growth, staffing, and investment decisions
- Maintain strong internal controls and accounting procedures
- Coordinate audits, reviews, and tax filings with external auditors and tax advisors
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, partnership, and investor reporting requirements
- Support fund accounting and reporting (if applicable)
- Partner with senior leadership on financial strategy and operational improvements
- Support financial modeling, scenario analysis, and performance metrics
- Assist with M&A, capital raises, or new investment structures as needed
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master’s preferred)
- CPA or equivalent professional certification strongly preferred
- Big Four experience - preferred
- 2-3 years experience in professional services, consulting, financial advisory, or investment firms
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards
- Experience with revenue recognition in consulting or advisory environments
- High proficiency with accounting systems and Excel; ERP experience a plus
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to non-finance leaders
- Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
