Job Description & How to Apply Below

A fast-growing construction organization is seeking a Director of Finance to lead company-wide financial strategy and support the next phase of growth. This role goes beyond traditional finance - serving as a strategic partner to ownership and executive leadership by providing clear, data-backed financial insight, disciplined forecasting, and scalable financial infrastructure.

This is a hands-on leadership role suited for someone who thrives in a high-growth, entrepreneurial environment and enjoys building systems, improving processes, and influencing business decisions.

Must have experience in a startup environment and experience in AEC

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Strategy & Leadership
  • Own company-level financial performance, planning, forecasting, and reporting
  • Develop and maintain budgets, rolling forecasts, and long-term financial models
  • Deliver executive-ready dashboards and analysis highlighting risks, trends, and opportunities
  • Act as a trusted financial advisor to ownership and leadership
Cash Flow, Working Capital & Risk
  • Lead cash flow forecasting, AR/AP strategy, retainage, and WIP management
  • Monitor under/over-billings and project cash positions
  • Establish early warning indicators for margin erosion and financial risk
  • Partner with operations to manage financial risk and profitability thresholds
Operational Finance & Controls
  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
  • Strengthen internal controls, financial processes, and reporting for scalability
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and financial requirements
  • Manage relationships with external auditors, tax advisors, and banking partners
Project Finance & Construction Operations
  • Align project-level financial processes including billing, job cost tracking, change orders, and closeout
  • Partner with preconstruction and operations on pricing, fees, and risk assumptions
  • Analyze historical project performance to refine margin targets
  • Lead relationships with banks, bonding, and insurance partners
  • Prepare financial packages to support bonding capacity and credit facilities
  • Support capital planning related to growth, staffing, and liquidity
Tax, Equity & Incentives
  • Partner with external advisors on proactive tax planning and forecasting
  • Support multi-entity and multi-state tax considerations
  • Assist with financial modeling related to ownership, equity, profit-sharing, and incentive plans
Systems & Data
  • Own and optimize the finance technology stack (ERP, job cost systems, reporting tools)
  • Establish a single source of truth for financial and operational data
  • Automate reporting and reduce manual processes
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting and finance team
  • Build a culture of accountability, accuracy, and business partnership across project teams
What Success Looks Like:
  • Leadership has clear, reliable financial data to make confident decisions
  • Financial operations are predictable, disciplined, and scalable
  • Project financials are accurate, timely, and aligned with field operations
  • The Director of Finance is viewed as a strategic partner—not just a numbers lead
Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience in FP&A, investment banking, private equity, tech-start ups, or a high-performing finance environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field (CPA preferred)
  • Strong financial modeling, forecasting, and analytical skills
  • Experience building or scaling finance functions in a growth-oriented environment
  • Comfortable operating in a lean, hands-on leadership role
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to translate data into action
  • $170-220k base salary with performance-based bonus (22-29%)
  • Retirement plan with employer match
  • Paid parental leave
  • Flexible work environment and generous time-off policy
