Location & Schedule
The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model. Employees work where needed, at a job site several days a week and off-site as needed. This position reports to our offices at 201 W. Colfax Ave in Denver three days a week and telecommutes remotely at a designated workplace within the State of Colorado the remaining days.
Who We Are & What You'll Do
The Department of Finance (DOF) is responsible for the fiscal health of the city. The DOF leads fiscal analysis and guidance, property assessments, budgeting, accounting functions, enforcement of fiscal policies, practices and procedures for the entire City and County of Denver. The DOF fulfills the state statutory responsibilities for tax assessment and collection. DOF also manages the City's debt portfolio and investment portfolio.
The DOF commits to delivering these services through a financial structure that reflects the best practices of both the public and private sectors. This commitment promotes better service, enhanced performance measures, maximum accountability, and improved business processes.
The City and County of Denver's Controller's Office is looking for a talented Payroll Supervisor to oversee the citywide payroll activities for the organization.
As a Payroll Supervisor you will perform supervisory work over professional and technical payroll staff engaged in performing a variety of payroll activities including reviewing, auditing, approving, and maintaining employee time reports and payroll records. Additional duties include overseeing and monitoring changes to citywide employees' payroll data.
Specifically, as a Payroll Supervisor you will:
* Direct and evaluate the work of professional and technical payroll staff members, provide technical expertise to staff, and establishes section and staff work programs and objectives.
* Oversee complex and specialized payroll functions in servicing and supporting citywide agency or department, and service and support multiple client groups outside the organization. (DERP, FPPA, Nationwide)
* Plan, assign, and review the work of staff members performing a variety of payroll activities and recommend changes in practices and procedures to increase operating efficiency and expedite work flow.
* Train new staff members in payroll techniques and methodologies, orients staff with appropriate laws, policies, regulations, and procedures, and ensure that work conforms to standards, regulations, and laws.
* Review new policy proposals or revisions and make recommendations about their effectiveness.
* Serve on committees and builds and maintains effective relationships with managers and other stakeholders in order to discuss and resolve issues/concerns, exchange information, and recommend changes to improve payroll services.
* Ensure that staff prepare comprehensive records, reports, and documentation that complies with standards and requirements.
* Develop or modifies work plans, methods, and procedures and determines work priorities.
* Assign and distribute work, reviews work for accuracy and completeness, and returns assignments with recommendations for proper completion.
