A growing privately held company is seeking a Vice President of Finance to lead its finance and accounting function. This is a key leadership role for a hands‑on financial leader who can operate strategically while also ensuring the fundamentals of accounting, reporting, cash management, and monthly close are executed with accuracy and consistency.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong accounting foundation, proven leadership experience, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment. This role requires someone who can provide executive-level financial guidance while also being willing and able to step into the details when needed.
About the RoleThe Vice President of Finance will be responsible for leading financial operations, strengthening accounting processes, improving financial visibility, and supporting leadership with accurate and timely financial information. A major focus of this position will be owning and improving the month‑end close process, ensuring the company closes the books accurately, consistently, and on schedule each month.
This position will play a critical role in building financial discipline across the organization, improving reporting standards, supporting cash flow management, and helping leadership understand the story behind the numbers.
Key Responsibilities Monthly Close and Accounting Leadership- Own and lead the monthly close process from start to finish.
- Ensure the books are closed accurately, completely, and on time each month.
- Establish and maintain a clear close calendar with defined deadlines, responsibilities, and review procedures.
- Oversee general ledger activity, journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and account analysis.
- Review monthly financial statements and ensure reporting is accurate, consistent, and supported by proper documentation.
- Identify and resolve close‑related issues, bottlenecks, or process gaps.
- Strengthen internal controls and accounting procedures to improve accuracy, accountability, and efficiency.
- Step into controller‑level responsibilities when needed to support the team and ensure deadlines are met.
- Prepare and present monthly financial results to leadership.
- Provide clear analysis of financial performance, trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Develop financial narratives that explain the story behind the numbers.
- Support executive decision‑making through timely, accurate, and practical financial insight.
- Improve reporting structure, visibility, and consistency across the organization.
- Partner with operational leaders to understand business performance and drive accountability.
- Lead cash flow forecasting, budgeting, and financial planning processes.
- Monitor liquidity, working capital, and financial risk.
- Support treasury management and ensure effective use of company resources.
- Provide leadership with forward‑looking financial visibility and recommendations.
- Identify opportunities to improve profitability, cost controls, and operational efficiency.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the finance and accounting team.
- Create a culture of accountability, accuracy, urgency, and continuous improvement.
- Partner cross‑functionally with leaders across the organization to align financial goals with business priorities.
- Evaluate and improve accounting processes, reporting workflows, and financial controls.
- Support company growth by building scalable financial practices and procedures.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
- CPA or equivalent advanced accounting credential preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
- Prior experience as a VP of Finance, Controller, Director of Finance, CFO, or similar financial leadership role.
- Strong technical accounting background with hands‑on experience closing the books.
- Proven experience with monthly close, financial statements, reconciliations, audits, cash flow forecasting, budgeting, and financial reporting.
- Experience in a small to mid‑sized company environment preferred.
