Job Title

Temporary Tax Examiner I – Call Center, Taxation Division, Colorado Department of Revenue.

Serves as a customer‑focused representative answering callers about tax issues, with customer service and accounting knowledge.

• Educate inbound callers on specific and ambiguous tax issues, referencing Colorado statutes, policies, and procedures.
• Analyze and understand complex tax account issues in a fast‑paced environment, communicating clearly to callers.
• Assist callers in utilizing departmental websites, tax software, or service portals to file returns, submit payments, and access tax information.
• Adapt to changes in statutes, policies, and procedures and facilitate resolution of taxpayer account issues in accordance with state statutes and policies.
• Follow a 3‑week training period at Denver office, then operate primarily from home with occasional travel to Denver as required.

• High school diploma or GED.
• Two (2) years of customer service experience, with at least six months involving accounting, bookkeeping, auditing, or tax administration.
• Valid background check and reference clearance; compliance with state tax filing and background investigation policies.

• Experience with Gen Tax.
• Experience with state, county, or municipal taxes.
• Experience in bookkeeping, technical accounting, tax administration, business economics, or finance.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
• Previous call center experience.
