OverviewA publicly traded real estate platform with a large and diversified national portfolio is seeking a Vice President, Portfolio Accounting to join its finance leadership team. The organization works closely with operating partners and focuses on delivering long‑term value through strong financial control, operational execution, and disciplined capital management.
Location- Denver Metro Area, Hybrid work schedule with a combination of in‑office and remote flexibility; please note: this is not a remote position.
This is a senior finance leadership role responsible for overseeing portfolio accounting, financial reporting, and operational integration across a complex real estate platform. The position serves as a key link between corporate finance, asset management, and operating partners, ensuring accurate reporting, strong internal controls, and meaningful financial insights.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and develop a high‑performing accounting team supporting a multi‑asset portfolio
- Drive process improvement, automation, and scalability initiatives
- Partner with executive leadership to support financial and operational strategy
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting processes
- Ensure compliance with SEC reporting requirements including 10‑K and 10‑Q filings
- Maintain and enhance internal controls aligned with SOX requirements
- Provide financial oversight across a large portfolio of assets
- Review income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow activity
- Analyze operating performance metrics and partner with internal teams to drive results
- Serve as primary liaison with third‑party operators and external partners
- Review and validate externally prepared financials
- Support joint venture reporting and new investment integration activities
- Minimum of 7+ years of experience in operational level property accounting
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field
- Experience in a publicly traded company environment including SEC reporting exposure
- Progressive leadership experience managing teams and complex accounting processes
- CPA
- Background in real estate, REIT, or other asset‑intensive industries
- Public accounting foundation preferred
- Strong technical accounting background combined with operational business insight
- Experience operating in complex, multi‑entity environments
Ability to partner cross‑functionally and influence senior stakeholders - Polished communication style and executive presence
