Principal Financial Analyst Position Summary

Provide fiscal and operational support to University Information Systems (UIS), including purchasing, accounting, and overall financial management for IT Governance projects and other UIS initiatives.

Where You Will Work

Applicants must be Colorado residents or be able to relocate within one month. The position may be performed remotely within Colorado with a hybrid schedule, including time at 1800 Grant St, Denver, CO.

Responsibilities
  • Generate custom and standardized financial reports, track and monitor consultant progress, and reconcile financial transactions and balances.
  • Ensure accurate and timely recording of all financial transactions, monthly close, and correcting journal entries as needed.
  • Forward monthly financial data to UIS managers and leadership; work with them to identify shortfalls, issues, and resolve discrepancies.
  • Consult and collaborate with budget managers to provide fiscal forecasting and modeling, and deliver information and visualizations for strategic decision‑making.
  • Assist or lead budgeting, forecast modeling, and reporting for all UIS‑related IT Governance projects; coordinate with campus financial analyst partners.
  • Prepare, submit, monitor, and close out approximately $55 million in UIS budgets based on long‑term department objectives.
  • Develop monthly and annual budget presentations using PowerPoint and Visio for the leadership team.
  • Track licensing and contract renewals; ensure processes are followed and costs are tracked against established budgets.
  • Support UIS chargeback models to campuses for target programs, including charging, invoice education, and annual reviews.
  • Oversee procurement activity, including compliance, purchasing via CU Marketplace, purchase order creation, maintenance, and invoice processing.
  • Process expense reimbursements and Concur travel and expense submissions, reviewing compliance and approving deviations as necessary.
  • Recommend enhancements, streamline current policies, and implement process improvements based on best practices.
  • Evaluate and recommend AI‑driven solutions to improve workflows and operational efficiency.
  • Serve as a back‑up for the Financial Analyst and Assistant Director, as needed.
  • Manage special projects and tasks as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution or equivalent professional experience.
  • Four (4) years’ professional experience in operations development, office management, or financial analyst roles, including: developing and analyzing customized and standardized financial reports; using enterprise financial software systems for budget reconciliations, journal entries, and financial research; and providing customer service.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or post‑baccalaureate degree in finance, non‑profit management, or a related field.
  • Six (6) years’ professional experience as indicated above.
  • General understanding of the University of Colorado and familiarity with its systems and procedures, including Concur, CU Marketplace, and People Soft.
  • Experience managing budgets and providing financial analyses in a finance, non‑profit, or higher‑education setting.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Proficiency in accounting and financial principles, processes, and best practices.
  • Analytical and problem‑solving skills; ability to prepare and present financial analyses to diverse audiences.
  • Strong written, oral, and listening communication skills.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (calculations, pivot tables). Proficiency with PowerPoint and Visio.
  • Experience with Concur, CU Marketplace, and People Soft.
  • Customer‑service orientation and ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaborate with teams.
  • Knowledge of AI ethics and data‑privacy considerations.
