Job ProfileThe bank is hiring a Portfolio Manager who will provide portfolio management and credit support to Commercial Lenders, including origination, structuring, execution, and monitoring of all transactions.
Responsible for working with Commercial Lenders, credit professionals, and loan operations on associated internal credit, research, and financial modeling functions.
Supports the achievement of profitability and credit goals for the division through day-to-day management of account relationships.
Education Level- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience
- 4 or more years of banking experience with an emphasis on relationship management and commercial lending
- At least 5 years of analyzing, negotiating, or structuring loan transactions in a corporate lending environment.
- Assist commercial lenders in managing their client relationships.
- Assists with specialized lending on any credit enhancements that may be attached to a credit request to mitigate identified risks.
- Assists the lender by being identified as the in-bank relationship manager, taking care of requests from them as needed.
- Assists the lender by scheduling, attending, and participating in the lender’s annual reviews.
- Collecting updated borrower financial information following periodic reporting requirements and completing scheduled loan reviews.
- Evaluates the adequacy of loan structures and collateral positions.
- Handles customer questions and concerns related to billing, documentation, and other inquiries.
- Independently manages the day-to-day activity of an assigned portfolio of transactions with a mix of accounts. This includes direct customer communication, as necessary.
- Keeps the commercial lenders informed of the status of the credit and obtains concurrence from the lender on significant changes to proposed terms and conditions.
- Leads underwriting discussions with Credit Officer and commercial lenders.
- May assist the lender by conducting loan closings.
- Responsible for identifying opportunities within a given portfolio and matching appropriate products or services to fulfill those client needs.
- Responsible for working with the Commercial Lender and Credit Analysts on associated internal credit, research, and financial modeling functions.
- Works with special assets on collections of past due loans, foreclosures, troubled debt restructurings, problem loan reports, and work‑outs.
- Works with the credit department to ensure appropriate underwriting, credit structure, and risk rating of the credit risk. Identifies and analyzes risks and repayment ability.
- Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.
- Ability to advocate persuasively.
- Ability to be a self-starter and demonstrate a strong level of initiative and commitment with a minimum level of supervision.
- Ability to learn and multitask efficiently.
- Ability to maintain the confidentiality of customer and credit information.
- Ability to understand accounting, including financial statement spreads, cash flows, and credit analysis.
- Capability to independently and proactively manage various relationships and effectively manage multiple priorities.
- Credit analysis training or experience appropriate for the job requirements.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Exceptional credit/analytical skills.
- Highly developed communication skills, including the ability to write clear and concise credit correspondence.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
