Position: Auditor II (Sports Betting) - Division of Gaming

About the Role

This position is open only to Colorado state residents.

Division of Gaming

Ensures that limited gaming is conducted honestly, fairly, and competitively, and is free from criminal and corrupt elements.

Sports Betting/Fantasy Sports Unit

Ensures honesty and integrity in the sports betting and fantasy sports industry, through education, compliance, and enforcement.

Typical Day of Auditor II

Develop and execute formal audit plans for sports betting operations. Work collaboratively within a team to ensure strict adherence to industry rules and regulations. Conduct thorough financial and operational audits to evaluate the integrity of betting activities while providing technical support and guidance to audit staff throughout the engagement.

Auditing Support

Navigate and deconstruct complex datasets to ensure operational integrity. Transform fragmented or “jumbled” financial information into clear, structured narratives, identifying irregularities, discrepancies, or patterns of non‑compliance. Establish formal audit plans and collaborate within a multidisciplinary team to evaluate regulatory adherence.

Tax Filing and Statistical Reporting

Manage the financial integrity of sports betting operations by performing rigorous audits of tax filings and comparing them against monthly statistical reports. Design draft reports, charts, and graphs to visualize and identify emerging industry trends, reconcile and validate data for reporting discrepancies, and communicate necessary tax adjustments to leadership.

Auditing Operations

Formulate expert conclusions and develop preliminary audit findings. Write formal audit and management reports, present findings to licensees, and recommend disciplinary actions when non‑compliance is identified. Draft and present administrative action documents to licensees, monitor implementation of corrective action plans, and conduct follow‑up reviews to ensure full resolution.

Onsite Audits

Required to perform onsite audits as requested by the Division and attend in‑person meetings at 1707 Cole Blvd, Suite 300, Golden CO. Audits and meetings are required at minimum twice a month.

Residency Requirement

This posting is only open to residents of the State of Colorado at the time of submitting your application.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Six (6) years of relevant experience in auditing related to the work assigned to this position.
  • Or: a combination of related education and/or relevant experience equal to six (6) years.
  • Current, valid licensure as a CPA from the Colorado Board of Accountancy or a current, valid CIA certificate will substitute for five (5) years of the requirement.
Special Qualifications
  • Must be able to pass a background check and Tax Check.
  • Must successfully pass a background investigation and tax check prior to appointment to positions in the Gaming Division.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado driver’s license (at the time of application). The position requires in‑state travel.
  • Must be able to pass a pre‑employment background check.
  • Attends all DOR compliance training modules.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Extensive background in conducting complex financial audits within highly regulated environments.
  • Knowledge of rules and regulations related to Gaming and/or Taxation.
  • Knowledge of data collection, management, and analysis, using relational databases or scripting languages.
  • Knowledge of the Sports Betting industry and terminology.
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau or GGPlot

  • Intermediate to advanced skills on Microsoft Excel and related Microsoft Office tools, or Google Suite products.
  • Strong analytic thinking, research, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and team‑working skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong data analytic and relational database skills.
  • Ability to gather relevant information, analyze problems, and use sound reasoning to arrive at conclusions.
  • Takes initiative to act on and follow through on work activities.
