The Role

Summary

The Portfolio Manager Team Lead is responsible for leading and developing the Bank’s Portfolio Managers while directly supporting Commercial Loan Officers. This role serves in a player-coach capacity, balancing leadership and technical guidance with active involvement in credit underwriting, relationship support, and portfolio administration.

The Portfolio Manager Team Lead partners closely with Commercial Loan Officers, Credit Analysts, Loan Operations, and Loan Assistants to provide exceptional customer experience. The Lead assists with maintaining portfolio quality, creating efficient workflows, and ensuring timely responses to customer needs. The position plays a critical role in supporting loan growth while maintaining sound credit quality and regulatory compliance. The Lead is involved throughout the loan and customer relationship life cycle, including financial monitoring, credit underwriting, risk assessment, covenant compliance, and preparation of credit presentations.

This position is well-suited for an individual who is focused on enhancing and building leadership and management skills, as well as skills in compliance and credit. This individual enjoys building relationships with loan officers and customers. The role provides hands‑on exposure to team leadership responsibilities while supporting ongoing personal and professional growth.

The compensation minimum within the wage range for this position is $99,500 to $120,000 annually and will vary depending on what city the applicant works in. All compensation offers are analyzed individually and take into consideration multiple factors including but not limited to geographic location, years of experience, and educational background.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Supervise commercial portfolio managers by providing coaching, training, performance feedback, and professional development
  • Maintain a proficient understanding of bank policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements to serve as a technical resource to the team in risk management and compliance
  • Provide feedback on credit memos, loan reviews, and other responsibilities to ensure bank procedure is adhered to and work is of high quality
  • Monitor progress of completion of annual reviews, problem loan reports, and construction loan reviews
  • Monitor progress of covenant testing and covenant compliance by portfolio managers
  • Review loan pipeline for Reg B compliance
  • Participate in Bank’s Adverse Action Committee and provide feedback on reasons for denial
  • Responsible for monthly review of construction loan invoicing, reconciliation, and other reporting needs
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment through open communication and strong partnerships with coworkers
  • Manage and oversee assigned commercial credit portfolios, including full analysis of loan renewals, loan reviews, covenant compliance, borrowing base compliance
  • Assist Commercial Lending Officers with loan structuring, financial analysis, preparation of credit presentations, and submission of credit presentations
  • Monitor individual credit relationships to identify emerging risks, recommend appropriate actions, minimize potential losses, and support problem loan management when necessary.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with borrowers, lending officers, and other stakeholders regarding financial performance, credit needs, portfolio monitoring requirements, and loan servicing matters.
  • Assist with the collection, review, and completion of all required credit, regulatory, and compliance documentation, including financial reporting, CRA, adverse action, and other applicable requirements.
  • Participate in community involvement, business development, and Bank-sponsored activities.
  • Identifies and recommends changes to improve underwriting processes, workflows, and cross-functional communication to enhance efficiency, consistency, and customer experience.
  • Ensures compliance with Bank policies and all applicable regulatory requirements, including BSA/AML, OFAC, and privacy regulations.
  • Fosters a collaborative, team-first culture, contributing where needed to meet department and Bank objectives.
