OverviewWe are partnering with a growing middle-market private equity firm to identify a Vice President of Deal Sourcing & Origination. Based in the Denver metro area, this professional will own the front end of the firm's investment funnel — building proprietary deal flow, cultivating intermediary relationships, and driving the top-of-pipeline activity that fuels platform and add-on acquisitions.
This is a national origination mandate. The firm evaluates opportunities across the United States and is not restricted to any single geography or region. Denver serves as the home base for the role, with travel to target markets, intermediary meetings, and industry events throughout the country.
This position is ideal for a driven origination professional who combines relationship-building instincts with analytical discipline, and who wants to own a national pipeline rather than execute someone else's.
Key Responsibilities Proprietary Deal Origination- Build and execute a thesis-driven sourcing strategy aligned with the firm's investment mandate and target industries.
- Directly originate proprietary opportunities through outbound outreach to business owners, founders, and management teams nationwide.
- Develop and maintain relationships with investment bankers, business brokers, M&A advisors, attorneys, accountants, and wealth managers across U.S. markets.
- Represent the firm at national and regional industry conferences, trade associations, and deal community events.
- Own and maintain the firm's CRM and pipeline reporting, ensuring accuracy and visibility across all stages of origination.
- Establish and track origination KPIs including outreach volume, meetings held, NDAs signed, IOIs submitted, and conversion rates.
- Build repeatable outbound campaigns, target lists, and market maps within priority sectors.
- Prioritize sourcing effort across geographies based on sector concentration, deal activity, and fit with the investment thesis.
- Provide regular pipeline updates to Partners and the Investment Committee.
- Conduct initial screening of inbound and proprietary opportunities against investment criteria.
- Perform preliminary financial and market analysis to assess fit, quality of earnings signals, and valuation expectations.
- Prepare deal summaries, screening memos, and materials for Investment Committee review.
- Support the transition of qualified opportunities to the execution team.
- Support letter of intent development, valuation analysis, and early diligence work streams.
- Coordinate with lenders, advisors, and internal deal professionals through the transaction process.
- Assist in add-on acquisition sourcing on behalf of existing portfolio companies.
- Develop deep knowledge of target sectors, competitive dynamics, and U.S. middle-market M&A activity.
- Track valuation trends, transaction comparables, and competing buyer behavior across markets.
- Identify emerging investment themes and bring differentiated ideas to the Partners.
- 8+ years of experience in private equity origination, investment banking, corporate development, transaction advisory, or M&A intermediary work.
- Demonstrated track record of sourcing, developing, or closing middle-market transactions.
- Established relationships within the national intermediary, banking, or business owner community.
- Solid financial analysis skills including financial statement review, valuation, and transaction modeling.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with credibility in front of business owners and advisors.
- Self-directed with the persistence and discipline required for outbound origination.
- Willingness to travel approximately 30–40% across U.S. markets.
- Based in or willing to relocate to the Denver metro area.
- Sector-based (rather than geography-based) sourcing experience across multiple U.S. markets.
