# About Our Job The Denver Police Department is seeking qualified candidates for the Property and Evidence Technician position. This role is responsible for receiving, verifying, and processing evidence and property from law enforcement, court, and laboratory personnel, ensuring all items are properly packaged, documented, and tracked.

The Evidence and Property Section is a vital support unit that provides 24/7 access for authorized personnel and serves the public during designated hours, playing a critical role in the safeguarding and preservation of all evidence in the Department’s custody.

This is an essential personnel position, and requires availability for varied shifts, including evenings, overnights, weekends, and some holidays. Shift preferences are determined by seniority, but operational needs take priority. During training, employees will rotate between two shifts; after training, a permanent shift will be assigned, though schedules may change as needed.

Job responsibilities include:
* Receives, identifies, inventories, packages, tags and stores evidence, found property and personal property for the Denver Police Department.
* Documents information in computer database inventory systems to establish and maintain the legal chain of custody, ensuring evidence is admissible for future criminal and civil court cases.
* Updates or deletes evidence/property information in computer databases.
* Retrieves evidence when requested by authorized personnel and monitors the viewing and handling of evidence to ensure it is preserved in its original state.
* Checks firearms submitted as evidence or personal/found property to ensure they are rendered safe and then secured to ensure the safety of Evidence and Property Section employees.
* Documents the release and disposal of property/evidence following departmental and legal policies and procedures and composes correspondence to inquiries from the public and police personnel.

* Ability to assist with manual labor such as reconfiguring shelves & moving bins of property and evidentiary items.
* Ability to safely drive a motor vehicle (movement of property and evidence).
* Willing/able to work different shifts – the Evidence and Property Section is a 24-hour operation.
* Understands and accepts the issue of seniority for Career Service employees.
* Strong computer skills and experience with computers on a regular basis.
* Respectful to others and accepting of constructive criticism.
* Strong customer service skills, and the ability to work in a high stress environment.

Candidates selected to move forward must successfully complete a polygraph exam, drug screen, and criminal background check as a condition of employment.

Below are the minimum requirements used to determine eligibility for this position:
* Education requirement:
Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.
* Experience Requirement:
One year of work experience in evidence handling or in the law enforcement field.
* Education/Experience Equivalency:
Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirement.
