Location & Schedule

In this position you can expect to work in the field 5 days per week, Monday‑Friday between 6:00am‑3:30pm. You will also work out of The Central Platte Campus, Roslyn Campus, or Cherry Creek Campus. However, 75% of the day will be spent in the field.

Solid Waste Management provides trash, recycling, compost, and large item pickup collection services, hazardous waste removal, recycling, and a composting program for single family Denver homes and multi‑family dwellings with up to seven units, municipal facilities, and Denver Public Schools. The agency’s Graffiti Removal Program removes graffiti from private and commercial property and the public Right‑of‑Way. The Keep Denver Beautiful campaign is housed in this agency.

The Solid Waste Management team has an opening for a City Inspector II. This position is responsible for enforcing codes and regulations regarding illegal dumping, graffiticart storage, and other situations that might arise. This position also will help educate residents about rules and regulation guidelines for waste services to gain compliance.

As a City Inspector II you will:
  • Investigate and resolve complaints regarding solid waste, graffiti and other compliance issues and present information to residents regarding code violations.
  • Research and investigate more complex issues, such as reports of illegal dumping. Develop plan of action and present to executive management.
  • Issue permits, notices, orders, summons, and citations.
  • Provide education to residents and resolve issues to gain voluntary compliance.
  • Interpret, adapt, and apply appropriate written guidelines, precedents, and standardized work practices to a variety of problematic situations.
  • Initiate appropriate action when unforeseen conditions are present such as identifying and reporting criminal activities.
  • Act as a representative of Solid Waste Management and the City and County of Denver in court.
  • Research data to develop reports. Enter information into City programs to ensure and track compliance, completion, and/or billing.
  • Train, direct and assist support other inspectors and/or investigators with investigations.
What You’ll Bring
  • Two or more years of public contact experience explaining government and/or commercial development policies, procedures, statutes, rule, and/or regulations, and relating them to specific problems.
  • Previous inspector experience.
  • Knowledge of City and County of Denver Solid Waste Management programs and service guidelines.
