Job Overview
The Public Assistance Quality Assurance (PAQA) unit administers the federally mandated state “Quality Control System” for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). The role audits statistically valid, integrated sample of SNAP cases to ensure compliance with federal regulations and state policy. The position is hybrid: 3 days remote and 2 days in office.
Responsibilities- Field Investigation: Independently audits agency actions; interviews recipients in homes; accesses databases; contacts third‑party sources to determine eligibility and payment accuracy.
- Case File Evaluation, Analysis, and Report: Validates data, researches regulations, determines applicable QC rules, reviews system data and documentation, performs peer review for accuracy, compiles and submits written reports, and directs county agencies to correct benefits.
- Correction Action Planning: Participates in corrective action planning, identifies error origins, provides technical assistance and error‑reduction strategies, and develops processes to prevent future errors.
- Other Duties: Provides coverage for other staff, attends conferences (e.g., Colorado Welfare Fraud Council, Social Services Technical and Business Staff), and delivers training to internal staff.
- Six (6) years of experience in Social Services, Human Services, SNAP, Medicaid, SSA, Rules & Regulations, Public Assistance, TANF, or Cash Assistance.
- At least two (2) recent years of experience determining SNAP initial and ongoing eligibility, including interviewing applicants.
- Current working knowledge of SNAP program rules, policies, and processes and experience entering data in the CBMS in Colorado.
- More than 3 years of experience with SNAP eligibility and payment determination.
- Experience troubleshooting CBMS data entry and system issues.
- Experience reviewing SNAP case files for eligibility and processing accuracy.
- Experience providing comprehensive findings and recommendations for process and eligibility improvement.
- Spanish speaking preferred.
- Full background and reference check required.
- State of Colorado residency at time of application and throughout employment.
- Driver’s license required if the role involves driving a state‑owned vehicle.
- State‑wide travel for home interviews (potentially high risk).
- Training and evaluation at local county offices.
- Former state employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must disclose and explain during application.
