The Colorado Department of Natural Resources (DNR) manages and conserves Colorado’s natural resources to benefit people today and tomorrow. The DNR works to balance development with conservation, ensuring future generations can enjoy Colorado’s natural heritage. The Colorado Water Conservation Board (CWCB) is a 15‑member board that establishes water policy, addresses Colorado’s water issues, and works to protect and assure the state’s water resources.
Position OverviewThis position exists to provide specialized professional support related to water resource management issues that intersect with federal, interstate, and water information policy, projects, and programs. It is a hybrid position: primarily performed from a home office, with occasional travel to 1313 Sherman Street, Denver, CO for meetings, trainings, and projects as directed by the supervisor.

Key Responsibilities- Conducting and overseeing contracts for highly technical work in water resource engineering and management.
- Reviewing and evaluating studies conducted by others.
- Representing the Board, the Director, and the Interstate, Federal, and Water Information Section as directed.
- Making recommendations to supervisor, Director, and Board on water resource issues that pertain to projects and programs under the position’s purview, and developing memos and presentations for the Board.
- Managing projects and programs on behalf of the Section.
- Coordinating with Section staff on technical, policy, and engineering work.
- Supporting administrative and technical work for the Section Chief, as directed.
- Six (6) years of professional work experience in water resources, natural resources, engineering, hydrology and hydraulics, program management, data science or management, or a related field.
- OR a combination of related education and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to six (6) years (Bachelors equals four years, Masters equals two years, Doctorate equals one year).
- Acceptable degree types include natural resources policy, natural resources management, environmental science, environmental studies, environmental policy, engineering, hydrology, geography, natural resources economics, natural resources law or a related field.
- Current or former State experience relevant to this position.
- Project and/or program management abilities.
- Knowledge and experience with data reporting and data visualization.
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
- Work experience with Colorado state agencies and/or federal agencies.
- Familiarity with state and federal grants.
- Experience working with a board of directors and government leadership/stakeholders.
- Experience conducting large presentations and/or public speaking to staff, communities, and stakeholders.
- Experience in customer service, including working with stakeholders.
- Proficiency with Google Suite and database applications.
- Familiarity with the CWCB and the work unit’s program areas.
- Colorado residency is required at the time of application.
- Former employees of the State of Colorado must have concluded employment in good standing to be eligible for rehire.
- A current and valid driver’s license is required; occasional travel is anticipated.
- Must be able to pass a background check.
- Must be willing and able to occasionally exert up to 20 lbs. of force to move objects.

Salary RangeA salary range is posted for this position and any job offer is based upon a salary analysis to comply with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act.
