Larimer County Community Development, located in Fort Collins, Colorado, is seeking a collaborative and customer focused planning professional to join our team. As a Planner, you will work closely with a supportive development review team to help guide development projects, implement land use plans, and provide exceptional service to community members, applicants, and internal partners.

Responsibilities- Accepts, reviews, and evaluates various land use applications; prepares and presents staff reports, including analysis and recommendations.
- Applies the Larimer County Land Use Code in a manner consistent with County policies and procedures.
- Assists in the analysis and drafting or refinement of land use regulations and procedures.
- Assists in the development and execution of methods to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of adopted regulations, procedures, plans, programs, and strategies.
- Conducts meetings involving the general public, special interest groups, County staff, County boards and commissions, and any others as assigned.
- Responds to requests for information from citizens, developers, and others for a wide variety of inquiries including, but not limited to, County plans, policies, procedures, regulations, and pending development and building permit applications.
- Performs special studies and projects as assigned and required.
- As assigned, serves as staff to the Board of County Commissioners, Planning Commission, or other commissions and committees, including preparation of reports and recommendations.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
- Principles and practices of urban planning and land use regulations.
- Group process, group dynamics, meeting facilitation, negotiation, mediation, and group problem‑solving principles and techniques.
- Specific technical subject matter as may be required to fulfill the job duties assigned to a given staff position including, but not limited to, land use planning, historic preservation, landscape architecture, natural resource ecology, or site planning.
- Correctly apply relevant laws, regulations, intergovernmental agreements, plans, policies, and procedures.
- Collect and analyze data, develop routine plans and reports, and make recommendations.
- Effectively and efficiently perform development review functions.
- Effectively respond to conflict situations and people in conflict.
- Provide professional customer service to clients and public.
- Accomplish the assigned workload in a timely manner and meet established performance standards and objectives.
Planner I
- One (1) year of experience in professional planning or in the performance of similar duties and responsibilities preferred.
- Bachelor's degree, or equivalent education, from an accredited college or university in Urban Planning or a related field required.
- Possess reliable transportation to be able to work in any County facility as needed and required.
Planner II
- Three (3) years of experience in urban planning or in the performance of similar duties and responsibilities with at least two (2) as a Planner I in Larimer County, or comparable experience, required.
- Bachelor's degree, or equivalent education, from an accredited college or university in Urban Planning or a related field required.
- Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Urban Planning or a related field preferred.
- Possession of AICP (American Institute of Certified Planners) certification preferred.
- Possess reliable transportation to be able to work in any County facility as needed and required.

ScheduleThe typical schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. A hybrid work option may be available after the successful completion of the probationary period. Attendance at occasional night meetings is required.
