Atlantis Community Inc. (ACI) has been advocating for people with disabilities for 50 years. Atlantis serves a seven-county catchment area (Adams, Arapahoe, Clear Creek, Denver, Douglas, Elbert, and Jefferson Counties). As a Center for Independent Living, we support the rights of people with disabilities to direct their own lives by providing advocacy, life skills training, transition services (youth, from nursing homes, and diversions from institutions), information and referral, and peer support.

The mission of Atlantis is to advocate for all people with disabilities to be a meaningful part of an integrated community of their choice.

The Independent Living Specialist - Mobile Unit is a position within ACI’s Independent Living (IL) Department that delivers community-based Independent Living services through the Mobile Unit while also supporting internal IL operations to ensure coordinated, continuous service delivery. This role combines field-based outreach with in-office responsibilities, working collaboratively with IL staff to meet consumer needs, maintain accurate documentation, and support program priorities across ACI’s service area.

To be successful in this role, you will be comfortable working in a primarily field-based environment while balancing in-office responsibilities for documentation, coordination, and follow-up. You’ll bring strong organizational and time-management skills to support scheduled outreach, partner site services, and group or shared settings, while maintaining clear communication with internal teams. Success in this position requires adaptability, professionalism, and the ability to work independently while traveling throughout ACI’s seven-county service area using the Mobile Unit.

You will understand how to deliver services within a structured outreach model, respond to community needs based on program priorities, and provide consistent, person-centered Independent Living support. A commitment to accessibility, collaboration, and ACI’s mission of empowering individuals to live independently is essential. This position reports to the Director of Independent Living Programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Mobile Unit & Community-Based Services (Primary – Approximately 70%)
  • Provide Independent Living services through scheduled Mobile Unit outreach, partner sites, educational events, and community-based engagements.
  • Conduct mobile intakes and support individuals in initiating Independent Living services
  • Provide short-term Independent Living support, goal exploration, and resource navigation in group or shared settings
  • Support consumers in identifying barriers, understanding options, and building skills to increase independence
  • Deliver educational outreach, training, or presentations to community partners, organizations, schools, and agencies to increase disability awareness, access to services, and understanding of Independent Living philosophy.
  • Serve as a resource to community partners by sharing information about Independent Living services, disability-related resources, and referral pathways.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community partnerships, agencies, and entities to strengthen outreach efforts, coordination, and service access.
  • Support community engagement efforts that increase visibility of ACI, the Mobile Unit, and available services.
  • Assist with Mobile Unit setup, breakdown, and equipment management
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation of services in accordance with Independent Living department standards
  • Observe professional boundaries and operate within the scope of the Mobile Unit service model
Internal Independent Living Support (Secondary - Approximately 30%)
  • Provide follow-up support to consumers initially engaged through the Mobile Unit, as appropriate.
  • Support office-based Independent Living appointments connected to Mobile Unit referrals.
  • Assist with documentation, data entry, reporting, and coordination related to Mobile Unit services
  • Support intake, Information & Referral, or other Independent Living operations as assigned
  • Collaborate with Independent Living staff to ensure smooth transitions from Mobile Unit outreach to ongoing services
