Job Summary and Qualifications
* Position Summary:
The Surgical Technician III (STIII) demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide assistance during surgical procedures performed in the department. The STIII assists in the cleaning and preparation of the operating room suite according to Hospital standards and policies, participates in the care and cleaning of OR equipment, and is experienced in all aspects of aseptic technique. Assists in setting up the required equipment and sterile supplies, supports the surgeon by providing instrumentation appropriate for the task as needed for their assigned cases, pulling cases as needed, and breaks down cases at the end of the procedure.
He/she is knowledgeable regarding instrumentation, equipment and supply needs for all types of surgical procedures. The STII performs delegated duties consistent with his/her scope of practice, functions within the philosophy and overall plan of care delivery, is required to take call as needed by the department and completes other duties as assigned.

* Complies with hospital/departmental policies and procedures, i.e., attendance, mandatory education, safety, infection control, etc.
* Performs patient care within the scope of training of the OR technician and under the direction of the RN.
* Respects patient's rights by maintaining patient privacy, dignity, and confidentiality.
* Demonstrates ICARE standards at all times.
* Can recognize and respond appropriately in an emergency situation.
* Attends unit specific education sessions.
* Attends 80% of all mandatory meetings and in-services.
* Reading and reviewing emails and other department communication.
* Prepares for each procedure and/or surgery.
* Can organize work and utilize time efficiently.
* Has knowledge of a safe transfer of the surgical patient.
* Demonstrates knowledge of the step-by-step positioning of the patient on the OR table.
* Maintains a clean OR suite for the surgical patients.
* Maintains a safe environment for the surgical patients by checking the conditions and cleanliness of equipment before procedure.
