Position Summary
The Electrophysiology Care Coordinator RN serves as a central point of medical care and coordination for patients in the EP clinic. This role is responsible for triaging and managing clinical questions and issues from patients, performing cardiac device interrogations as indicated, supporting device clinic as needed, oversees scheduling procedures, including prior authorizations, optimizing clinic and procedural schedules, managing EP-related in-basket communication, relaying results, and coordinating care across multiple sites, including Saint Joseph Health and MIDC.
- Acts as the main point of contact with patients to triage clinical questions/issues; answer questions and implement clinical management within scope of practice/protocol-driven care.
- Monitors antiarrhythmic clinic patients through remote surveillance, including placing orders for and reviewing routine laboratory testing and periodic electrocardiograms per protocol.
- Oversees scheduling EP procedures, diagnostic studies, and follow-up visits in alignment with provider availability and procedural capacity. Coordinates procedural logistics between the EP clinic, Saint Joseph Health, and MIDC.
- Serves as the primary point of contact for patients before and after EP procedures. Provides timely communication regarding procedure preparation, expectations, and follow-up care.
- Tracks prior authorizations for EP procedures, imaging, and related services and independently troubleshoot issues in real-time to avoid procedural delays/cancellations. Proactively identifies authorization barriers to prevent day-of-procedure delays or cancellations.
- Communicates with payers to obtain approvals and resolve authorization issues.
- Actively manages and optimizes EP clinic and procedural schedules to maximize utilization and access. Coordinates with providers, nursing, and procedural teams to ensure readiness for scheduled cases.
- Monitors EP in-basket messages to assess and triage patient-reported symptoms, respond to non-clinical patient inquiries within scope, and appropriately escalate and route clinical concerns to providers and ancillary teams to ensure timely and coordinated care.
- Ensures timely follow-through on patient messages, test results, and care coordination needs.
- Facilitates clear communication across organizations to support safe, efficient procedural care.
- Provides education to patients and families regarding EP procedures, testing, and care pathways.
- Assists with coordinating anticoagulation holds for patients managed through the Anticoagulation Clinic who require procedures with other providers.
