DaVita is looking for a career minded individual to take the lead as our next Medical Records Specialist. The Specialist, Health Information Management is a detail oriented person who provides timely and proactive medical record retrieval support to Patient Care Teams across all DaVita IKC. This role serves as a subject matter expert and primary contact for medical record needs. Due to the high amount details and electronic tracking of information, this position requires advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and computer literacy.
This position performs release of PHI (Protected Health Information) and medical records compilation relative to Government/Payor Audit, Patient, and Third-Party Requests for ROI (Release of Information) according to established policies, regulations and Federal/State laws. Teammates in this position foster respect for patient privacy by maintaining confidentiality in all aspects of role. This position promotes positive customer relations through prompt and courteous service in this fast-paced and high-volume environment.
Responsibilities- Respond to and process requests for medical record retrieval in a timely manner in accordance with medical records and information policies, practices, and regulations (i.e. State and Federal HIPAA Regulations).
- Review records for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with regulations. Also confirm successful transmission of records.
- Participate in special projects outside of the day-to-day responsibilities.
- Make outbound calls to medical offices, specialists, and hospitals to procure medical record documentation.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Working knowledge of Privacy & HIPAA Regulations Required
- Strong organizational skills Required
- Excellent Attention to detail Required
- Basic computer skills and proficiency in MS Word, Excel and Outlook
- Strong interpersonal skills Required
- Previous experience in medical records highly preferred
