Overview
The Human Resources Generalist is an essential member of our team who provides leadership and support for important HR programs and processes. This role partners closely with leaders, supervisors, union employees, and team members to drive compliance, engagement, and operational excellence.
The ideal candidate is friendly and persuasive, able to engage and build meaningful relationships with people, highly organized, and demonstrates excellent business acumen and initiative to deliver on goals. The position plays a crucial role in developing and nurturing SFC culture through the integration of Company values and expectations across all touch points.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesEmployee & Labor Relations
- Serve as a trusted resource for union and non-union employees, supervisors, and leadership on employee relations matters, policy interpretation, and corrective action
- Support investigations, disciplinary actions, and terminations in alignment with company policy, labor agreements, and employment law
- Administer unemployment claims and represent the Company as needed
- Conduct exit interviews and analyze trends to support retention strategies
- Handle sensitive and confidential employee information with discretion and professionalism at all times
Talent Acquisition & Onboarding
- Recruit, hire, and onboard union employees, supervisors, and leadership roles
- Coordinate and deliver new hire orientation, ensuring compliance and a strong employee experience
- Maintain and manage job descriptions to support organizational clarity and compliance
Training & Development
- Deliver Seattle Fish Company learning programs and HR-related training initiatives
- Partner with leaders to identify training needs and support workforce development
Benefits, Leave & Workers’ Compensation
- Administer employee benefits programs, including open enrollment and ongoing benefits support
- Manage workers’ compensation claims, coordinating with carriers, employees, and leadership to ensure timely resolution and compliance
HRIS & HR Operations
- Manage and maintain the Human Resources Information System (HRIS), including Paycom, ensuring accurate employee data, system integrity, and compliance
- Process employee lifecycle changes within the HRIS (Paycom), including hires, transfers, promotions, pay changes, and terminations
- Generate and analyze HR reports from the HRIS to support leadership decision-making and regulatory requirements
- Maintain accurate personnel files and documentation in accordance with record retention, confidentiality, and data privacy standards
Communication & Culture
- Develop and deliver clear, consistent company-wide and HR-specific communications
- Champion company values and reinforce expectations through daily interactions and HR programs
Education, Training and Skills Required
- 3+ years’ experience in human resources.
- Technical proficiency in the HR function.
- Proven track record of success in implementing HR programs/policies.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Effective communication and presentation skills at all levels (oral and written).
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
- Team-oriented approach to problem solving.
- Demonstrated planning and system implementation ability.
- Proficiency in related computer software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Fluency in Spanish is preferred.
This position reports to the HR Manager.
This role is expected to be on-site.
This job operates in an office and warehouse environment. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, filing cabinets and fax machines on a daily basis.
