Our mission driven nonprofit client is seeking a Manager of IT Applications to lead and sustain our internally developed retail application systems — most notably our custom pricing platform that supports all store operations.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role. While we are evaluating a long-term transition to a cloud-based, off-the-shelf system, our immediate priority is ensuring stability, continuity, and deep understanding of our current homegrown infrastructure. There will be an opportunity to work with the outgoing Manager to transition tribal knowledge of the systems.
The outgoing Manager personally architected and coded much of the systems. Preserving knowledge, maintaining operational integrity, and strengthening documentation are critical priorities.
This role will work closely with our SQL DBA and one other technical resource to ensure seamless operations across approximately 500 users spanning a corporate office and 38 retail locations in three states.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain and enhance the existing systems
- Support and optimize SQL Server and Oracle database environments
- Ensure system reliability, performance, and data integrity
- Troubleshoot production issues and implement sustained fixes until a new system is identified.
- Strengthen documentation and knowledge retention
- Gather business requirements from stakeholders
- Tie functional requirements directly back to database architecture and application logic
- Ensure technology solutions support operational efficiency and mission outcomes
- Safeguard institutional knowledge during leadership transition
- Partner in evaluating long-term migration to a cloud-based solution
- Provide pragmatic recommendations balancing cost, risk, and impact
- Ensure any future modernization effort preserves mission continuity
- Work alongside the SQL DBA and technical staff to create redundancy and shared knowledge
- Foster a culture of documentation, stability, and collaboration
- Provide technical leadership even if formal management responsibilities are minimal

- Experience supporting multi-site operations preferred
- Leadership experience is welcomed but not required
