Network Engineer, Operations & Support

Overview

Meta is looking for a forward thinking engineering leader with technical skills in production network operations and OEM vendor management to join the Edge and Network Services (ENS) Operations organization. In this role, you will lead initiatives to improve efficiency, reliability, and risk management via process, systems, and data in one of the largest scale networks in the world. You thrive in a fast moving operations organization and enjoy digging into complex operational and reliability challenges to implement process and technical system solutions at a global scale.

• Incident Response:
  Drive work investigating complex technical and process issues on a global scale spanning multiple reliability, security, and continuity disciplines for infrastructure across thousands of locations during major incidents and site events on edge, caching, and network infrastructure. Collaborate effectively with cross functional teams, managed service providers, and third-party vendor partners.
• Escalation Management:
  Participate in the global team’s Tier 3 and 4 on-call rotation with the goal of routing issues as needed and identifying opportunities to improve processes or tooling, develop skills, and automate to prevent recurrence.
• Operational Leadership:
  Drive continuous improvement across the team, indirectly managing a large contingent workforce delivering road mapped projects and recurring activities. Drive standards across the network and ensure compliance with policies.
• Information and Data Assurance:
  Ensure operational process, procedure, and policy documentation is effectively managed and that data required to support operations is complete and accurate in systems.
• Automation:
  Analyze operational events to identify automation opportunities and help achieve the goal of all faults being fully remediated by software. May include guiding roadmaps and, in some cases, directly implementing lightweight code solutions.
• Data Measurement:
  Drive quality in the metrics reported to focus on areas with the best return on investment, including escalation issues, fault/event trends, capacity, and vendor performance.
• Collaboration and Partnership:
  Support internal customers and vendors across global sites, ensuring needs and issues are addressed proactively.
• Roadmap Ownership and Strategy:
  Own planning and execution of an organizational-level roadmap and strategy to deliver business outcomes.
• Technical Leadership:
  Provide root cause analysis and corrective action leadership to resolve operational issues across edge and backbone architectures and hardware platforms, coordinating with cross-functional teams to scale with Meta’s growth.
• Business Ownership:
  Represent the organization in interactions with hardware, colocation, telecom carriers, and managed service partners.
• Project Leadership:
  Lead cross-functional infrastructure projects and programs in a matrix organization across data centers, production networks, infrastructure, logistics, compliance, legal, and software systems.
• Communication:
  Communicate across teams and stakeholders to drive infrastructure operations development and management.
• Risk Management and Assurance:
  Ensure design, build, and operations align with reliability, security, privacy, regulatory, and business continuity requirements.
• Travel:
  International and domestic travel required up to 15%.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, a relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Operations Management (ITOM) / Functional
  
  Qualifications:
• Information Technology functional experience:
  Minimum of 10 years working within global network or infrastructure operations, deployment, design/engineering and/or support teams.
• Network Protocol:
  Advanced knowledge of TCP/IP, IPv4/v6, BGP, IS-IS, OSPF, and/or MPLS in complex troubleshooting;
  Cisco and Juniper professional level or equivalent experience.
• Network and Infrastructure Design:
  Minimum of 10 years of direct experience influencing network and infrastructure architectures and translating requirements into solutions.
• CDN and Edge:
  Advanced knowledge in CDN & Network Services, peering strategies, topology, traffic analysis, Linux, hardware platforms, and architectures in complex troubleshooting.
• Operations Center
  
  Experience:
  
  Minimum of 5 years in a global Network Operations Center or IT Operations Center to manage SLAs and drive continuous improvement at scale.
• Repair Function:
  Minimum 10 years of logical troubleshooting and physical repair of infrastructure components and facilities.
• Vendor Partner
  
  Experience:
  
  Minimum 5 years partnering with enterprise and service provider vendors (e.g., Cisco, Juniper, Ciena, Infinera, HPE, Arista) and ITAD/logistics/colocation vendors.
• Business Metrics:
  Experience identifying key metrics and measuring program impact.
• Professional Services:
  Experience purchasing, negotiating, and managing global RFPs and contracts.
