Summary
IT Specialist positions are being filled through the Office of Personnel Management's delegated Direct Hire Authority, open to all U.S. citizens. Selections made under this bulletin will be processed as new appointments to the civil service. Current civil service employees will receive new appointments. Under the Direct Hire Authority, Veterans Preference and the "Rule of Many" do not apply.
DutiesThis announcement serves as public notice. Applications will be placed in a pool and remain on file for selection as positions become available. Vacancies may be filled for up to 6 months after the closing date. Applicants will not receive referral status notifications until the 6‑month period has elapsed. Positions filled from this pool will involve primarily Artificial Intelligence duties.
QualificationsResumes exceeding two pages will not be considered. To qualify for the 2210 IT Specialist series, you must demonstrate the following competencies. Experience may be demonstrated through paid or unpaid duties or specific training such as IT certification.
- Attention to Detail – Thorough and conscientious.
- Customer Service – Engages with clients and customers to assess needs and provide assistance.
- Oral Communication – Clearly presents information, listens, and responds appropriately.
- Problem Solving – Identifies problems, evaluates alternatives, and makes recommendations.
For the GS‑14 level you must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience at or above the GS‑13 level in or related to this work. Experience must primarily involve managing mainframe storage infrastructure, advanced mainframe data storage administration, mainframe storage maintenance, and mainframe storage operations.
EducationThis position does not have an educational requirement. Education cannot be substituted for specialized experience.
Additional InformationThe SSA technology team supports the agency’s mission by managing computer systems and enterprise IT infrastructure. The team designs, builds, tests, and delivers innovative technology solutions to ensure uninterrupted, 24/7 availability of critical services. Operations management, capacity planning, and performance testing are conducted to maintain a highly available environment. The team leverages Artificial Intelligence and emerging technologies to improve service delivery for agency employees, partners, and the public.
Candidates will be required to complete a 1‑year probationary period during which performance will be evaluated.
