Job Description
A financial client of Insight Global is seeking a Systems Administrator III to support and maintain their IBMi (AS/400) environment. This individual will be responsible for day-to-day system operations, performance monitoring, maintenance, and troubleshooting across critical infrastructure.
This role sits within a fast‑paced and highly critical environment where reliability and system uptime are essential. The ideal candidate will be comfortable taking ownership of operational tasks, identifying issues proactively, and supporting enterprise-level systems with minimal oversight after onboarding.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor and maintain IBMi (OS/400, i5/OS) systems to ensure performance and uptime
- Perform system health checks, job monitoring, subsystem management, and message handling
- Apply system updates including PTFs, firmware updates, and OS upgrades
- Manage user profiles, security access, and system resource allocation
- Execute backup, restore, and storage management activities
- Troubleshoot hardware, OS, and system performance issues
- Analyze logs and performance data to identify root causes
- Partner with vendors for hardware maintenance and issue resolution
- Support and enhance backup, archival, and disaster recovery processes
- Participate in an on‑call rotation for after‑hours or weekend support
Must‑Haves
- 3–5+ years of experience supporting IBMi / AS400 / iSeries environments
- Strong experience with IBMi system administration (OS/400, CL commands)
- Hands‑on experience with IBMi hardware and system operations
- Experience with Power
VM setup and configuration - Strong understanding of storage concepts and management
- Experience with job scheduling, system monitoring, and backup/recovery processes
- Ability to troubleshoot system, performance, and operational issues independently
- Knowledge of IBMi security, user provisioning, and access management
- Strong documentation practices and familiarity with change management processes
Nice‑to‑Haves
- Experience with enterprise backup tools such as Cohesity or TSM (Tivoli Storage Manager)
- Exposure to enterprise storage systems (SAN/NAS, IBM Power Storage, etc.)
- Experience with high availability/disaster recovery tools (Power
HA, MIMIX, Robot HA) - Familiarity with automation tools (Robot Schedule, Help Systems, or similar)
- Knowledge of ACBS (Advanced Commercial Banking System)
- Understanding of networking concepts related to IBMi (TCP/IP, FTP, ODBC)
