Position Overview We are seeking a Storage Engineer to serve as the senior technical authority for enterprise storage and server infrastructure across classified production environments. This role is accountable for the full lifecycle of petabyte‑scale storage platforms—from architecture and deployment through optimization, automation, and decommissioning. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in enterprise storage technologies, virtualization, backup and disaster recovery, and classified/air‑gapped operations, with the ability to serve as the senior escalation point for complex infrastructure issues.

  • Own and manage the full lifecycle of enterprise storage platforms across classified production environments, including architecture, deployment, optimization, and decommissioning
  • Architect data center build‑outs with integrated object storage, compute, and networking infrastructure
  • Establish and enforce storage infrastructure standards to reduce unplanned downtime and improve operational reliability
  • Deploy and manage enterprise storage solutions like Dell EMC Power Scale/Isilon, Net App ONTAP, Cohesity, and Nutanix platforms
  • Operate enterprise backup and data protection solutions at petabyte scale, ensuring compliance with recovery objectives
  • Manage virtualization infrastructure including Hyper‑V, VMware vSphere/ESXi, and container platforms (Kubernetes)
  • Administer identity and access management infrastructure including Active Directory, Group Policy, and LDAP in classified environments
  • Enforce SCAP/STIG compliance and security hardening across all managed systems
  • Develop automation solutions using Power Shell and REST APIs to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual processes
  • Manage SAN fabric infrastructure (Fibre Channel, Brocade, Cisco) and network‑attached storage protocols (SMB/CIFS, NFS, iSCSI)
  • Serve as senior escalation point for complex storage, server, and infrastructure issues across the enterprise
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior and mid‑level engineers as needed
  • Participate in 24/7 on‑call rotation for mission‑critical infrastructure support
  • Conduct technology refresh planning and execution, including hardware lifecycle management and EOL migrations
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 12 years experience with a BS/BA; minimum of 10 years with an MS/MA; minimum of 7 years with a Ph.D.; or 16 years with a high school diploma
  • Extensive hands‑on experience with enterprise storage platforms at petabyte scale (Dell EMC Power Scale/Isilon, Net App ONTAP, or equivalent)
  • Strong expertise in backup and disaster recovery solutions (Commvault, Veeam, or equivalent) including DR design and recovery testing
  • Experience with virtualization platforms (VMware vSphere/ESXi, Hyper‑V) and hyper‑converged infrastructure (Nutanix, VxRail)
  • Proficiency in Windows Server and Linux (RHEL) administration in classified environments
  • Experience with Active Directory, Group Policy, and identity management in air‑gapped networks
  • Knowledge of SAN fabric technologies (Fibre Channel, Brocade, Cisco) and storage protocols (SMB, NFS, iSCSI)
  • Experience with SCAP/STIG hardening and federal security compliance in classified environments
  • Strong automation skills (Power Shell, scripting, REST API integration)
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills
  • Active TS/SCI or Q/SCI clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Dell EMC Isilon/Power Scale certification or equivalent storage vendor certification
  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) or equivalent
  • Experience supporting Department of Energy (DOE), DoW or IC programs
  • AWS experience (S3, EC2, VPC, IAM) and on‑premises‑to‑cloud migration experience
  • Experience with Kubernetes and container orchestration in classified environments
  • Familiarity with Cohesity data protection and management platforms
  • Experience supporting Change Advisory Boards (CAB) for storage and infrastructure changes
  • Track record of authoring technical runbooks and knowledge base documentation
  • Prior experience at Dell EMC or equivalent vendor in a technical support/engineering capacity
