Technical Consultant - PS

Overview

Acts as a trusted technical advisor, recommending the optimal technology strategy for our prospects and clients. Defines client needs and develops a plan and proposal for delivery of the project. Viewed by customers as a consultant. Performance is typically evaluated based on the capture of the consulting engagement and/or utilization, (e.g., billable hours). This position should be used for individuals who are actively and regularly meeting with and presenting to clients.

The Technical Consultant is responsible for technical presales activities and for the detailed design and implementation of technical solutions, from capturing initial requirements to leading solution deployment and final delivery to clients. Works on multi and/or cross-functional business solutions.

The Technical Consultant works closely with Sales, Customer Success, and Professional Services Engineering teams.

• Provides business technology strategy and solutions sales support for new and existing customers.
• Consults with prospects and customers to understand and validate their business objectives and challenges, and to identify the appropriate technologies and solutions to address those objectives.
• Writes detailed but appropriately succinct Statements of Work that capture business objectives, technical solutions, level of effort, hardware and software, and high-level timelines to deliver Professional Services engagements.
• Leads technical customer discovery sessions and assessments.
• Plans, designs, and implements successful, high value technology solutions.

Serves as technical lead on active engagements she/he has designed solutions for

• 10+ years of experience deploying or maintaining infrastructure in environments servicing 300+ users.
• 5+ years working in an IT professional services role.
• BA or BS degree or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
• Advanced writing skills.
• Proficient in delivering proposed solution presentations to prospects and customers.
• Proficiency with Active Directory and Azure Active Directory
• Advanced to expert industry certification for the designated subject matter domain / discipline.
• Successful experience designing, installing, and supporting solutions in multiple environments for multiple clients.
• Proven network analysis and diagnostic skills, ability to implement quick and effective solutions to network problems and elevate issues when necessary.
• Strong proficiency in configuring, deploying and troubleshooting all of the following networking services: HTTP, DNS, TCP/IP, VPNs, VLANs, VIPs, ACLs, Routing, Switching.
• Leverages consultative approach to ascertain prospect and customer business and technology objectives.
• Presents and explains technology solutions to prospects, customers and peers.
• Maintains extensive knowledge of traditional technologies, such as LAN/WAN, messaging, BC/DR, MS Windows-based server infrastructure and storage, cloud technologies (private and Azure), and security solutions, with strong understanding of emerging technologies.
• Possesses strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Trains Professional Services delivery resources on successful project discovery and implementation.
• Provides technical leadership to assigned project resources.
• Maintains strong IT engineering skills.
• Implements complex technology projects.
• Works in a fast-paced sales environment.
• Pays strong attention to detail, ensuring the delivery of high-quality deliverables.
• Develops timely and high quality managed and professional services proposals and contracts.
• Serves as technical luminary to colleagues within the Professional Services organization.
• Team oriented.

The Technical Consultant is the highest level, non-managerial career path role in the Professional Services organization. Experience as a Sales Engineer, Solution Architect or Sr. Professional Services is key to successfully performing in this role.
