Transforming The Way Construction Owners Use Technology & Data

Avicado has been doing meaningful business intelligence work for years—building dashboards, engineering data pipelines, and maintaining cloud infrastructure—yet the people doing it have always had competing priorities. The work has been valuable, but it's never had a dedicated owner.

The Business Intelligence Engineer will change that. This role supports Avicado’s data and reporting infrastructure end‑to‑end: stabilizing the dashboard portfolio, maturing the cloud pipelines that feed it, and building toward a future where leadership has reliable, timely data for staffing, delivery, and revenue decisions. The engineer partners closely with IT on security and access, and with data owners on accuracy.

You will love this job if…
  • You are a high performer, self‑starter, and love to learn.
  • You take ownership of projects and drive impact.
  • You connect and grow both inside and outside the organization.
  • You like to have fun and be your authentic self.
  • You embrace change and lead the way.
What you’ll do…
  • Cloud Data Infrastructure
    • Operate Avicado's GCP data environment—Big Query, Cloud Functions, Cloud Scheduler, and Cloud Storage—in partnership with IT on access, security, and provisioning.
    • Write and maintain Python‑based ETL scripts that pull data from sources such as Toggl, Rippling, Xero, Salesforce, etc., and load it into Big Query.
    • Extend the pipeline portfolio to onboard new data sources, including CRM data not yet flowing into the warehouse.
    • Automate recurring operational workflows—scheduled data quality checks, automated exports, and scheduled GCP functions—to replace manual or one‑off scripts.
    • Follow version control best practices via Git Hub, ensuring infrastructure changes are tracked, reviewable, and documented.
  • Dashboard Development & Maintenance
    • Own Avicado's dashboard portfolio across all internal teams—Operations, Finance, People & Talent, and Sales.
    • Translate business logic from stakeholders into reliable, well‑designed dashboards.
    • Build and maintain dashboards using Tableau (or other visualization tools as the ecosystem evolves).
    • Create net‑new dashboards for audiences lacking reliable reporting, including executive, director, and operational views that surface project financial data, service line performance, and renewal visibility.
    • Own the full lifecycle of each dashboard: data source connections, SQL statements, refresh schedules, quality checks, documentation, and bug resolution.
  • Data Quality & Governance
    • Ensure data integrity within the analytics layer—pipelines land data correctly, views are accurate, and dashboards reflect source systems.
    • Diagnose data issues and decide whether they stem from pipelines, dashboards, or source systems, routing the problem to the appropriate owner.
    • Maintain naming conventions, dataset organization, and schema documentation in Big Query.
    • Serve as the internal expert on how data flows between systems and identify where breaks occur.
  • Cross‑Functional Collaboration
    • Work closely with stakeholders in Business Operations, Finance, People & Talent, Sales, and IT to understand reporting needs and translate them into solutions.
    • Act as the first point of contact when a dashboard breaks or a pipeline fails—own the resolution, not just escalation.
    • Partner with IT on data security, permissioning, and access governance.
You should have
  • 5+ years of experience in Business Intelligence, Analytics Engineering, Data Engineering, or a similar role.
  • Hands‑on experience with Google Cloud Platform, particularly Big Query, Cloud Functions, Cloud Scheduler, and Cloud Storage.
  • Strong Python development experience building and maintaining ETL pipelines.
  • Strong SQL skills with experience working in cloud data warehouses.
  • Strong experience designing and building Tableau dashboards from the ground up.
  • Experience maintaining production reporting environments and troubleshooting data pipelines.
  • Familiarity with Git/Git Hub version control workflows.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with exceptional attention to detail and data accuracy.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate business needs into technical solutions.
  • Exper…
