Job Summary:

Gain hands-on experience preserving and sharing historical collections while building valuable skills in digitization, metadata creation, and digital preservation.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Special and Digital Collections preserves, manages, and provides access to unique historical and cultural materials, including newspapers, manuscripts, audiovisual materials, photographs, rare books, and ephemera related to Auraria and Denver history. The Digitization Assistant supports these goals by digitizing collection materials, creating descriptive metadata, organizing digital files, and assisting with online access through the library's digital repository.

Handle and digitize archival materials using scanning equipment. Edit digital files and images using Adobe software. Create metadata and describe archival materials. Organize and manage digital files according to established standards. Upload content and metadata to the digital repository. Perform quality control and accessibility-related tasks. Assist with special projects and other departmental duties

Competencies/KSAs:

Students who are successful in this position have an interest in history, archives, libraries, and digital collections. Strong attention to detail, organization, and the ability to follow established procedures are essential. Candidates should be able to work independently, handle fragile materials with care, and complete tasks accurately.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • FAFSA on file and all requirements complete
  • Enrolled in at least 6 hours at the Community College of Denver
  • Meeting SAP
Preferred Qualifications:

Familiarity with digitization tools, metadata, Microsoft Excel, Adobe Acrobat, or Adobe Photoshop is beneficial

Additional Information/Benefits:

Students will gain practical experience in archival processing, preservation practices, digitization workflows, imaging standards, metadata creation and management, digital repositories, digital preservation concepts, and accessibility practices. Training will be provided on digitization equipment, metadata standards, repository workflows, and handling archival materials.

This position aligns well with Library and Information Science, History, Museum Studies, Digital Humanities, Information Systems, Computer Science, Communications, and related fields. Students gain hands‑on experience in preserving, organizing, and providing access to digital and historical resources.
