Own the estimate on fixed-price work. The role with the least room to be optimistic.
Most of our work is priced in fixed phases against a written scope, so an estimate that is wrong comes out of our margin rather than the client’s budget. This role owns that number. It suits someone who finds discipline about scope more satisfying than optimism about velocity.
What you will do- Own estimates across engagements, including the assumptions each one depends on.
- Write the scope documents that make a fixed price defensible.
- Track delivery against the estimate and raise variance while it can still be acted on.
- Write the weekly client note: what shipped, what did not, and what changed in the estimate.
- Say no to scope creep in the room, politely, with the change priced.
- Experience owning delivery commercially, not only operationally.
- You have estimated software work and been measured on it.
- Technical enough to challenge an engineer’s estimate and be taken seriously.
- Excellent written English. Most of this role is documents clients rely on.
- A background as an engineer before moving into delivery.
- Experience with enterprise procurement and statement-of-work negotiation.
