Description Of Job What You Will Do

A reallocation job announcement occurs when an encumbered classified position is being promoted to a higher level classification. Additionally, the current employee has already been assigned to perform the higher level duties.

This position is located in the Peace Officers Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Unit within the Criminal Justice section of the Colorado Attorney General's Office. The Unit exists to assist the P.O.S.T. Board with the requirements of the statutorily mandated P.O.S.T. created curriculum and the supervision of training efforts of Colorado peace officers. The Unit is responsible for ensuring training needs of the law enforcement community are met by regularly developing and changing existing curriculum, setting and maintaining standards of law enforcement training academies, certifying and decertifying peace officers, and the administration of large amounts of grant funds for peace officer training.

This position is responsible for the management and oversight of Colorado’s Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) unit. The Director leads staff and develops strategic plans in the following areas: development and revision of law enforcement training curricula; inspection and approval of law enforcement training programs and academies; administration of written and skills examinations; compliance with statutes related to criminal history checks for peace officer certification applicants;

annual grant awards for law enforcement training programs; marijuana enforcement training and in-service training; investigations of civil and criminal violations of P.O.S.T. statutes; ensure compliance with annual in-service training requirements; enforce mandatory reporting requirements to P.O.S.T. by agencies. The Director coordinates with Operations and Budgeting concerning the POST staff budget, coordinates POST Board agenda items for quarterly Board meetings, develops and implements POST rules, conducts certification revocation show‑cause hearings, staff revocation matters that fall under the authority of an administrative law judge or hearing officer, collaborates with, and acts as a resource for, law enforcement officials at the local, state and national level in the development of peace officer training and accountability programs, provides resources, reference and testimony to the General Assembly, review and comment on legislative matters, manages the filling of POST Board vacancies and appointments with the Governor’s Office of Boards and Commissions, and advises the Attorney General on law enforcement matters.

Salary note:
Although a salary range is listed, salary will be set commensurate with the successful candidate’s qualifications and in compliance with the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act.
