Position Summary:
Law students perform a variety of duties at CLS depending on their experience level and the needs of the particular project or office. Working with a team of dedicated and rotating staff in this fast-paced environment, housing unit attorneys provide advice and brief services to applicants.
Essential Duties:
- Assist with the investigation of applicant's legal issues through client interviews, documentary review, research and analysis.
- Assist at one or more of the Housing Unit's three Eviction Clinics.
- Additional duties may include drafting of advice letters, pleadings, memoranda and briefs and legal research.
- Assistance with any other tasks necessary to carry out effective representation of clients.
- Strong commitment to legal issues affecting low-income individuals
- Strong interest in research, writing and interviewing
- Strong commitment to working with vulnerable individuals, including disabled and elderly clients in need of legal assistance.
- Candidate should be confident and able to work both independently and as part of a team
- Spanish-speaking ability
This position is housed in the Denver office.
Time commitment:
Full-time for 10 weeks.
Compensation:
The position is unpaid but is open to receiving other work study funds that are student generated. Students may apply for course credit through their Externship Program.
