SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The Procurement Manager is responsible for leading purchasing and supplier management activities as well as providing input on sourcing management. This role manages a team of professional procurement employees and oversees procurement of direct materials (80/20 focus) as well as indirect goods and services.

The role drives cost efficiency, supplier performance, and supply continuity while aligning procurement strategies with operational and business objectives. The Procurement Manager applies data-driven decision-making, including 80/20 analysis, to prioritize high-impact categories, optimize supplier base, and improve working capital.

Director of Supply Chain & Compliance

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Procurement Strategy & Execution

  • Develop and execute procurement strategies for direct materials (80/20 categories) and indirect spend.

  • Ensure material availability to support production schedules while optimizing inventory levels and cash flow.

  • Lead sourcing activities including RFQs, bid analysis, supplier selection, and contract negotiations.

  • Drive cost reduction initiatives through value analysis, supplier consolidation, and strategic sourcing.

  • Supplier Management & Performance

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers.

  • Monitor supplier performance across cost, quality, delivery, and service (CQD) metrics.

  • Lead supplier business reviews and corrective action plans where needed.

  • Identify and mitigate supply chain risks (capacity, geopolitical, single-source dependencies).

  • Direct (80/20) & Indirect Spend Management

  • Apply 80/20 principles to prioritize high-value materials (e.g., metals, engineered components).

  • Manage procurement of indirect goods and services (e.g., logistics, professional services).

  • Ensure compliance with company policies and cost controls across indirect categories.

  • Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of procurement professionals.

  • Set clear performance expectations and accountability standards.

  • Drive continuous improvement mindset and skill development within the team.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Engineering, Operations, Finance, and Quality teams to align procurement with business needs.

  • Support new product development (NPD) through early supplier involvement and cost modeling.

  • Collaborate on cost savings, value engineering, and process improvement initiatives.

  • Operational Excellence

  • Maintain accurate procurement data and reporting in ERP systems.

  • Track KPIs including cost savings, supplier performance, inventory turns, and on-time delivery.

  • Ensure compliance with safety, ethical sourcing, and regulatory requirements.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Technical & Functional

  • Strong understanding of strategic sourcing and procurement processes

  • Experience with metal commodities, engineered components, or industrial supply chains

  • Knowledge of ERP systems (i.e., JDE experience preferred)

  • Strong analytical skills with ability to apply 80/20 and data-driven decision making

  • Financial acumen (cost analysis, total cost of ownership)

  • Leadership & Behavioral
