The Denver Public Library (DPL) is looking for a decisive and collaborative Security Supervisor to lead our safety operations at the iconic Central Library in downtown Denver. In this role, you aren’t just overseeing a team; you are a primary architect of a high-performing, safety-conscious culture that ensures a welcoming and secure environment for all library customers and staff.
Unlike a standard lead position, this role carries full supervisory authority. You will be responsible for overseeing the professional development of our Security Officers, managing department budgets, and spearheading the design of agency-wide safety programs. As the point of escalation for emergencies, your leadership will directly impact the positive experiences of our downtown community.

* Knowledge of safety and security in a public setting.
* Knowledge of emergency procedures, safety hazards and how to delegate to a team.
* Ability to track license and training compliance
* Ability to train new employees and remediate with staff if needed
* Ability to review reports within the incident reporting system and escalate as needed.
* Ability to use workplace technology effectively including email, calendar, internet, databases, video conferencing, and other software.
* Ability to assign and distribute tasks, review work for accuracy, and provide constructive feedback to ensure unit efficiency.
* Ability to assist with investigations related to new employee hire and to theft, injury, or accident; collects evidence and testifies in court if necessary.
* Ability to staff an established security station and writes incident reports.
* Ability to resolve problems and mediates conflicts encountered during daily operations and determines appropriate solutions; promotes teamwork. Encourages regular communication, informs staff of relevant business issues and their impact on the organization.
* Ability to develop goals, documents performance, provides performance feedback and formally evaluates the work of the employee; provides reward and recognition for proper and efficient performance. Assists staff to achieve performance standards and identifies opportunities for continual improvement to performance standards.
* Ability to ensure quality, effectiveness, and efficiency of unit activities and safety measures.
* Ability to document causes for disciplinary action and initiates letters of reprimand and makes formal recommendations for disciplinary action. Responds to formal and informal employee grievances and prepares written responses.
* Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.
* Three (3) years of experience in security, loss prevention or law enforcement, including six months conducting safety or loss investigations. Two of the years experience must be in security, loss prevention, or law enforcement, including six months conducting safety or loss investigations.
* Requires a valid Driver’s License at the time of application.
* Experience managing complex security situations in a busy public space.
