The Plant Maintenance Manager is responsible for leading all maintenance activities at a high-production aggregates quarry in Colorado, producing approximately 1 million tons per year. This role ensures safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation of crushing, screening, conveying, and mobile equipment by implementing proactive maintenance strategies, managing personnel, and driving continuous improvement. The position plays a critical role in safety performance, plant uptime, and overall operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities- Lead all fixed-plant and mobile equipment maintenance activities, including crushers, screens, conveyors, feeders, wash plants, loaders, haul trucks, and support equipment
- Develop and execute preventive and predictive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and extend asset life
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and welding issues in a quarry environment
- Plan and manage major repairs, shutdowns, and capital maintenance projects
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, and equipment histories using a CMMS
- Directly supervise maintenance supervisors, mechanics, electricians, and contractors
- Schedule labor effectively to support production demands, seasonal variability, and emergency repairs
- Train, coach, and mentor maintenance personnel with an emphasis on safety, skill development, and accountability
- Foster a strong safety culture and lead by example
- Ensure full compliance with MSHA, OSHA, environmental, and company safety standards
- Conduct safety meetings, job safety analyses (JSAs), inspections, and incident investigations
- Partner with operations leadership to reduce risk and improve safe work practices
- Collaborate with plant leadership to improve plant availability, throughput, and cost per ton
- Support capital planning and equipment upgrades
- 7+ years of maintenance experience in aggregates, mining, cement, or heavy industrial environments
- 3+ years of supervisory or management experience leading maintenance teams
- Strong working knowledge of crushing and screening plants
- Experience with MSHA regulations and safety management systems
- Ability to read mechanical drawings, schematics, and equipment manuals
- Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills
