A well-established, privately held construction firm headquartered in Denver is seeking a Controller to lead and evolve its accounting operations. Known for delivering high-impact commercial, infrastructure, and multifamily projects across the Rocky Mountain region, this organization is looking for a financial leader who thrives in a fast-paced, project-driven environment. - Oversee all core accounting functions including multi-entity financial statements, material and service job cost accounting, WIP schedules, AR/AP, and payroll
- Manage month-end and year-end close processes; ensure timely and accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP
- Lead individual and consolidated financial statement preparation and collaborate with external auditors and tax advisors on a regular basis
- Partner with project managers to track job performance, forecast project cash flow, and enhance cost controls
- Lead budget planning and variance analysis across business units and job sites
- Implement and refine internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure audit readiness
- Optimize accounting systems and support ERP upgrades or integrations (e.g., Sage 300, Viewpoint, Procore, Deltek)
- Build and develop a high-performing accounting team; mentor staff and support cross-training initiatives
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 4 years in a leadership role
- 4+ years leadership experience in the construction industry is required; knowledge of project-based accounting and percentage-of-completion revenue recognition is a must
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA strongly preferred
- Familiarity with construction accounting software (Sage 300, Deltek, Viewpoint or equivalent)
- Proven ability to lead teams, manage multiple job cost centers, and interface with field operations
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a passion for process improvement
- Comfortable balancing strategic oversight with hands-on execution in a mid-sized, dynamic company
